Both Museum and cafe's open at 10, you pay to enter the fort, military guards and barracks, if you walk toward the point and the 16" gun battery the second restaurant is a little cheaper but does not have as many patio tables as the first does. Order the all inclusive European breakfast for one, it's too much, share it... More

Just between Copacabana and Ipanema beach the fort shows the defense bunkers incl artillery batteries in a museum but even if you are not very interested there are some very nice coffeeshops over the rocky beach where you can enjoy a refreshing drink and a great view over the Copacabana beach and the Sugarloaf at the other end? Easy to... More

Great place to walk and have a wonderful view of Copacabana and Ipanema/Leblon beaches, with an opportunity to visit the old fort with the 16" and 12" Krupp heavy coastal artillery cannons and a military museum with lots of WW1 and WW2 rifles, machine guns and uniforms on top of Brazilian Empire /19th centuryuniforms and weapons. Maintained by the Brazilian... More

It is an amazing place to visit. I live in Rio de Janeiro and I can assure the best views of Rio de Janeiro are from there and from the others (Fortaleza de São João, Forte Duque de Caxias and Fortaleza de Santa Cruz - Google to find the address).

The fort was mostly blocked off. I felt like it was just there to say it's there and get people to spend money at the two cafes with views. Skip it. Pure tourist trap with very little other than a cafe with a huge waitlist to offer.

There is not much to do on rainy day...so if you stuck in Rio on rainy day, this might be an option. The museum is not that exciting, but it do tell a bit of story of military here. There are 2 restaurants in here, which do serve good lunch!! but the queue at lunch time can be a bit... More

For 6 reales, this is a nice escape. The museum is not large. It is quaint and small. It provides history about the military and the importance of Copacabana Beach. The most wondeful part of the visit were the cafes and restaurants inside the fort on the grounds, where you can sit and have a snack while you enjoy the... More

I'm actually aging military forces, but this visit was quite interesting. After a walk on Copacabana beach, at the end you can visit the forte, which has an amazing view of Rio. Being Portuguese, the history was also interesting, seeing Brazil's side of it. The army people were also quite open and talkative, and were happy to help with anything... More

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
