Neighbourhood: Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.

I do not know about safety after sunset in Rio, so I took a safer route and went to Forte de Copacabana with Uber. Fort is inside an active naval base and there is an entrance fee because there is army museum. But they let us in free due to language barrier, they thought we just came to café. There are two cafes with outdoors seats packed with customers to see sunset and city view. We tried famous cake and pastries at Confeitaria Colombo. Its original downtown place has a lot of history, famous for afternoon tea but here I do not need to worry as it is inside naval base.
Also check the big weapons, canons and fort at the end. Big waves crashing at the tip and other side is famous Ipanema beach area.

This forte is one of older one that were build to defend the entrance of the bay from others invaders and pirates. The view is fantastic and also had a great restaurant , where you could rest a little to enjoy the beautiful of the nature around it. Don't miss it.

The panoramic view of Copacabana from this Fort is wonderful. You can also visit the old military facilities and the small museum of Brazilian Army history. The coffee shop (Colombo) will help to recover from the hot weather of Rio. From the top of the Fort, beside two huge cannons you have a panoramic viewof Atlantic Ocean. I recommend this quite and safe place to be visited.

We chose to go there because it was close to where we were staying. It was easily accessible by public transportation and short walk. The views were breathtaking, and there is a small museum inside the fort with interesting information about the time period when the fort was built and used. There are 2 cafes within the fort grounds that have good service and coffee and refreshments. I highly recommend it if you are in Rio and have a couple of hours to spare.

some people are unaware of this attraction, even because it is not advertised as it belongs to the Brazilian army! The prices are ridiculously low but the visit even for foreigners is very surprising. Canhoes from the time of the first war and the view of the beach from another angle are worth the visit. Having a beer or a drink at dusk I win that beach is one of my definitions of peace of mind!

There is a pavilion with a history museum (permanent and temporary exhibitions), a restaurant, a cafe, a souvenir shop and an original fortification on top of which there are defensive cannons and ... beautiful views of Copacabana.

The museum is at the southern end of the Copacabana, and where the Colombo is. I think most people going there is for the cafes and meals.
The Fort charges a nominal fee to get in and they don’t take credit card. When we asked if USD would do, the guard kindly let us in. Thank you.
The ground is neatly kept. We walked around briefly after lunch. It's scene.

A visit to the coastal defence Fort is an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.
It was not far from our hotel so we took a stroll in the morning after breakfast. The entrance fee is low.
There is a small interesting museum going through Brazil's history. Obviously a lot of military exhibits such as canons.
There are several cafes and souvenir shops.
It is also another place to get great views of Rio and the beaches.

The museum rooms and rooms at the Copacana Fort present history in a didactic way for those who know the Portuguese language, but it seems that the place is not prepared to receive international tourists. There are no signs or explanations even in English available.
Furthermore, the view of Copacabana beach is beautiful and it is possible to have a coffee at the “Colombo café”, for those who are willing to stand in line.
