This is a small military museum located inside the military base Fort Copacabana. There is a small entrance fee to the fort which includes the museum. We noticed many people just wanted to see the views, go to the cafes including a branch of the Confeitaria Colombo. They seemed to just skip the museum. It is an interesting diversion going through the military history of Brazil since the arrival of the Portuguese.

I was looking for confeitaria colombo. I didn’t know it was inside the fort. You pay only 6 reais to enter. Inside there are two restaurants. Good views from everywhere and a couple of historical expositions. Unfortunately everything is in Portuguese only. I would recommend. It is cheap, nice view and the actual fort is impressive.

Located just at the end of Copacabana beach, the entrance is patrolled and the ticket very cheap (6 reals for adults and students/concessions 3 reals), they accept cash only. The view of the entire bay is stunning especially on a sunny day. The museums is small, only 2 floors, however is very well assembled and kept, includes good exposition of materials and pieces of the Brazilian Army. All together brings up scenarios of important moments of the Brazilian history .Shame all the displays commentary is written in Portuguese, though with a bit of effort and previous knowledge of history it's possible to understand. Lifts were not in use during my visit. Inside the fort there is also a small cafe Colombo where you can enjoy an afternoon coffee/tea or a quick bite. Definitely the visit is interesting and worth especially during a rainy day in Rio.

The fort is cheap and has an amazing view the city and the beaches. It interesting to see how they live in the fort and how big the cannons were. The things are in Portuguese but it isn’t to it. Just go around and see everything. It’s worth a visit.

Copacabana Fort caters to the tourist who’s in search of a great view of Rio along with learning about Brazilian history. Entrance is quite inexpensive and one can easily spend couple of hours learning about the military history of Brazil and then take great panoramic pictures of Copacabana Beach overseeing the Sugar Loaf in the background.
