Top ways to experience Morro da Babilônia and nearby attractions

The area
Neighbourhood: Urca
Urca is one of the oldest areas in Rio. Known for its incredible views of the city, the neighbourhood runs along Guanabara bay, providing visitors with an opportunity to watch the sunset from one of Rio’s greatest natural treasures: Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar). It is said that the locals in Urca are “bon vivant,” which is one of the reasons the area attracts people of all styles and ages. Urca is the perfect place to take a stroll and appreciate the area’s beautiful architecture, enjoy a cocktail and some delicious seafood pastries at a bar, or bring a bottle of wine and enjoy it while sitting anywhere along the stone seawall known as the “mureta.”

The Morro da Babilônia is a very interesting place to visit. Near Copacabana, it does give visitors a taste of the other reality of Rio. A gentle pacified favela, one discovers the gentle- and openess of the locals. It can immediately change the vision one has about favelas, a problem with the media only highlighting the bad sensational news. It is worth doing the walk up to the Mirante do Telegrafo, a short and easy walk through the protected Natural Parc to the top of the Morro da Babilonia . Here you discover the marvel of Rio. Make sure you have a local guide so that you get the story first hand from people who live the realities of the Morro da Babilônia.
