Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mauá Square is quite bustling and apparently safe during the day, with several different options of walking vendors and local trade.
There are two museums to explore, the Museum of Tomorrow and the Museum of Art of Rio de Janeiro. In the square is available transportation in a golf cart for those who want to go to the giant wheel, which is in the vicinity. Next to the giant wheel there is another good tourist attraction, the AquaRio.
Access to Mauá Square can be made via VLT.

Super quiet location, with many attractions to enjoy, such as the Rio Art Museum, the Museum of Tomorrow and the Olympic Boulevard, built for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and a beautiful sunset, seen from the square, or from the Pier Mauá of the port of Rio de Janeiro, having in the background the Rio-Niterói Bridge and local navigation. There are options of cafes and restaurants around the square and the beautiful Monastery of St. Benedict right nearby. It is worth enjoying the place with walks without commitment.

Mauá Square is quite traditional in Rio de Janeiro. Located in the centre of Rio in the region of the Puerto Carioca. Ample place that hosts the Museum of Tomorrow. On site there are fairs that attract tourists. Access is simple and the VLT passes through the region helping tourists (and the local population) to visit nearby attractions, restaurants and places.

This square used to be “must avoid” kind of place, which - many years ago - foreigners had to visit if they had business with the Federal Police. For the Olympic Games the place has completely been cleaned and modernised, and it is now a tourist attraction in its own right. The Museum of Tomorrow is not a must, but if you have enough time in Rio (having already seen all the more important sites and sights) this is an option. You can make a day of it in the Centro, there is a lot to see, including the São Antônio church, the São Bento monastery (don’t miss!!!) and then in Praça Mauá the Museum of Tomorrow with its futuristic building, the Museum of Art of Rio de Janeiro and the aquarium. You may get here with the new VLT tramway, which has connection to the metro.

Maua Square is the one of the most beuatiful and walkable public spaces in Rio de Janeiro. Is a perfect place to take photos at the sunset, sit on the grass, or simply admire the landscape. Here you also can visit great museums like Museu do Amanhã and Museu de Arte do Rio.
The square is part of the Porto Maravilha, a project who revitalized Rio's downtown.

The very large Maua Square marks the beginning of the Port Region of Rio de Janeiro. From 1910 onwards this became an important place of entry for goods and people into Rio but unfortunately fell into disrepair and, we understand, became a dangerous place to visit.

The square received an enormous makeover in the lead up to the 2016 Olympic Games with the demolition of the Perimeter High road and the building of the Rio Art Museum and the Museu do Amanha (Museum of Tomorrow) together with general landscape improvements. In the middle of the square is a statue of Irineu Evangelista de Souza, said to have been Brazil's industrial pioneer, that was erected in 1910.

There are great views of the harbor to be had from this square though I would not visit unless going to one of the museums..

The sign is a highlight here...its a must shot in your Rio trip photos.

On weekends there are more tourist, so it might be a bit more difficult. but there are also food trucks and small handcraft market, so it is more fun.

From here you can take good pic of the sign with museum at the back

I didn't visit Mauá Square before the revitalization, but I heard that it's very diferent than before. My experience was nice, it's a beautiful place and the Museeum of Tomorow is an interesting tour. But I was with my small child, and it becomes a little complicated. It is a better program for older children. My baby is 2 years old.

"Praça Mauá" has always been there, sided by the port of Rio de Janeiro and hidden by an awful express way (the so called Avenida Perimetral)! Recently, this express way was demolished and "Praça Mauá" (a beautiful square) came back to life! At the center of an important revitalization process of the square and of the adjoining area, two new museums were built: "Museu de Arte do Rio de Janeiro" (MAR) and "Museu do Amanhã"! Both are smashing successes, attracting thousands of visitors each month. The new tramway (VLT) connects the square to downtown and to two subway stations ("Carioca" and "Cinelândia"), as well as to Rio's Bus Station ("Rodoviária Novo Rio") and to its domestic airport ("Aeroporto Santos Dumont" - SDU)! If eating is at your plans, try "Mauá" (at the MAR Museum Roof Top) or "Mosteiro" (near the famous "Mosteiro de São Bento" church) Nevertheless, be aware of your belongings and visits after dark are at your own risk! Enjoy!
