Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The museum offers an unforgettable journey through time that combines unique exhibits with modern technology and presents an exciting experience in the world of history.
By visiting the Regional Historical Museum of Stara Zagora you can observe and learn everything about the thousands years history of the city, starting from the Early Neolithic Period (the beginning of the 6th millennium BC), through the golden age of Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to the restoration of Stara Zagora after the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878).
More than 100,000 artifacts are stored in the museum collections, telling the story of the city's rich 8,000-year history.
The price for visiting the museum is BGN 5, for retired – BGN 2, and for schoolchildren and students the ticket price is symbolic – BGN 1.
The talk is paid separately – BGN 10, but it is worth knowing what you are looking at and in what context. There are also different deals for group visits that you can check out here.
The working hours of the museum are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., closed on Monday.

Really worth seeing. Great ancient section with Roman, Helenic and Thracian artefacts, including a real ancient street on top of which the museum was built. Impressive glass artefacts, golden treasure, masks etc. Good for families, although I was expecting more interactive things for children.

If you love history here is a good place to dive into the history of Stara Zagora. Well arranged expositions, well-described history of each exhibit. It's worth losing a few hours in history.

Having visited the roman remains outside we thought we would drop into the museum see whether we could find out more about what we were looking at, and we were very pleasantly surprised. There is a very respectable collection of Roman and pre-Roman artifacts for a regional museum, with signage in Bulgarian and English. If you are into Roman history then there will not be much you haven't seen before, but there are a few stand-out items: the glass bowl engraved with the figure of a woman is particularly beautiful. The highlight is the basement, where part of the roman road has been preserved in such a way that you can walk along the Roman high street imagining yourself walking in the footsteps of the Romans who lived there 2000 years ago.
A little more interpretation of the buildings on the other side of the road would have been nice, and the upper floor on more modern times rattles through 2000 years with an over-reliance on visitors already having a good knowledge of Bulgarian history. Skip the exhibition floor if you don't speak Bulgarian. But overall a very enjoyable visit - definitely the best thing to do in Stara Zagora and for the equivalent of £2.50.

The Regional Museum of History from Stara Zagora is now situated in a new large, beautiful building with an original architecture. The presentation of the artifacts is convenient. You are surprised to find out some of the old and rich history of Bulgaria. There are many objects from the Roman era and as a curiosity is exposed a section of an ancient Roman street. You are sorry to see that all the ancient Rome civilization has disappeared. For lovers of history the visit will be useful and enjoyable.
Not far from this museum are the ruins of the Roman amphitheater, the Art Gallery and the Museum of religions in an old mosque.
The entrance fee is approx. 2 euro.

The Regional Museum of History is one of the attractions in Stara Zagora you should not omit. Modern architecture, lapidarium, authentic ancient Roman street, interesting expositions from all historical levels of this ancient town.

I love this museum because it suffered a lot before being built, as it was started in the old communist regime and was finished only some couples of years ago. But not Stara Zagora has the first museum in BG, withholding the cardo maximus of the old city. There are some interesting artefacts form the city and nearby tells, datting back 8000 (!) years, and nice roman mosaics

Superb museum for an Eastern European country I must say. A lot (not all though..) of texts surrounding the artwork, maps, ... is translated in decent English.
Most astonishing is the cellar level, where you can step on an actual Roman paved road! Another eye-catcher on this level are 2 magnificent mosaic tile floors.
First floor was ancient history till around 500, on the second floor we learned alot about the medieval history of the greater Stara Zagora Region and the Ottoman occupation.
On the third floor was a rather boring temporary exhibit about a tradition from another region with costumes and goad/sheephead masks.
There was an English booklet guide available for those who like it, was about 3 Lev (1.5 EUR)
