Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful and magical small island in front of Chonchi. You sail 15 minutes in a ferry with your car and arrive to Chulchuy. You can drive through the main road or the borders rural roads. You will find the tipical wood houses, old and news. Both are beautiful in the same way. Farm with sheeps, cows, ducks, hens, cocks, turkeys, pigs. You can find ARTISANS of the island with original works in wood, wool, basketry, original potatoes of the zone. You can find them in the main square in Puqueldon or in the different villages in the island. You have different choices of hostelling, cabins, restaurants and markets with the main items for home.

Lemuy Island is BEAUTIFUL!!!! I didn't even know it by name, here I read some people's opinions and we decided to go...I would stay and live there! Yayanes Park is beautiful, and an adorable old man takes care of it; the beautiful witches' pier, Detif, the landscapes, the people...everything beautiful. I recommend it a thousand.

The landscape is great, people are very nice and the churches are gorgeous. We decided to spend a full day at Lemuy Island and we enjoyed every minute. The Island is very hilly and you are constantly surprised by the next landscape after the hill. You only need a full tank because there are no gas stations in the Island, but it is very short (the longest distance was 26KM from Chulchuy to Detif). Also, you take a ferry which is an attraction for the kids.

My wife and I spent a day in Lemuy Island. Once we disembarked we did the Parque Yayanes (highly recommendable) trail and had a delicious and very authentic lunch there. Later we headed to Detif using alternative routes with some very nice views. As a matter of fact it may be better to use the dirt roads than the main highway because it's so winding that you end up dizzy. In Detif we visited the shop from Ms. Gloria Mansilla. She has a lot of beautiful and exclusive woven baskets and bags that are worth seeing. I bought five Christmas presents! Only accepts cash... Overall, the splendid views, the abundance of natural forest and the welcoming people make me highly recommend visiting Lemuy Island.

While you can island-hop independently, it can be a hassle to time the bus and ferry departures so that they coincide. Most people go with a tour, which you can buy from many tour operators in town. Also, public transportation options on the islands aren't great so you might be better off on a tour where you'll get to visit the rural areas, rather than be confined to the main towns . In low season (from April to October) though, it is likely that your only option is to go out on your own as the tour agencies won't leave without a full tour.

Probably most people rather go to Achao than to Lemuy, but Lemuy is definitely worth a visit. Smaller, quieter and more remote than Achao, Lemuy is a great spot to meet the Chilote culture.

You have to drive to Chonchi, south from Castro, and take a ferry to get there, and it is better to go by car, since the different towns, and churches, are not close by.

Lemuy has at least 4 churches, and 3 three of them are part of the UNESCO´s World Heritage, Ichuac, Aldachildo and Deitf, if you don´t have much time you might want to skip the last one, that is further away from the other two, and might not be that nice. Puqueldon´s church is not ugly, it has 2 towers, but I would definitely recommend to go here!

We had never heard of this island until we heard of the El Castano B&B. Although we had originally planned to take tours in larger areas our tour of Isla Lemuy with Silvio from El Castano was one of the highlights of our 2 week trip to Chile! When we told travel guides in Santiago that we were spending 3 days on Isla Lemuy they said they had never heard of tourists going there!

The island of Chiloe has a unique if not mystical place among travelers to northern Patagonia. I spent three days with Andres from Patagonia Southern Land Expeditions (see separate review) touring the area. I honestly did not know what to expect before the trip, but as I reflect on the experience it reinforced the idea of maximizing your journey by taking “the road less travelled.” Looking more closely at the map shows that Chiloe is an impressive archipelago with a number of smaller islands on the eastern side and I was fortunate to visit this one on my second day of the tour. It is accessible by a short ferry from Chiloe itself and contains nine villages, three churches, and innumerable nooks and crannies to sustain one’s interest. A detailed review of my three hours on the islet would do the experience an injustice, raising expectations and suggested a certain way to approach what was a “highlight-within-a-highlight” of the area.

Drive around and observe, stop at a church or two, eat at a random cafe, and otherwise enjoy the moment. Highly recommended.
