Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are way more beautiful lagunas in the area, but at least you can take a swim here.
The road is bumpy, I’d recommend a 4x4 (or at least a 2x4 SUV). You can go in any car though, just follow two advices: release some tyre pressure (down to 1.5 bar or 1.8 bar, don’t know what’s it in PSI), and drive at least 80km/h, even if it feels strange at first. You’ll fly over all those bumps and stones.
On the other hand you won’t miss anything spectacular if you don’t. Entrance fee is 5000 peso p.p.

Not worth the arduous long trip on gravel roads, even if nice to look at. Lucky we dd not pay the additional tour fee (had our own car)
But they should provide beach shoes for the masochist (the water is, at least in April, icy.) that want to go in the water . Trying to walk to the water barefoot on the very sharp stones is very painful around the small pond (you can dip in the bigger one only if you are with a tour - but crowded)

The road to get to Laguna is very bad, it's 32km of really bad speed.
Of the 7 lagoons we were supposed to see, only 1 was open for floating.
The color of the water doesn't even come close to the photos posted on the internet.
We were told that it was due to the contamination of creams and sunscreens that people use to enter the water, which is prohibited, but that at no point since arriving at the place is it discussed with visitors.
There are showers on site, but they are not working, they provide a 5L gallon of water for people to wash themselves after entering the Lagoon.
Ticket price for foreigners is 10,000 Chilean pesos.

Lagunas Baltinache is at best average. It is at a short driving distance from San Pedro De Atacama. Swimming was not permitted on the day I visited. The surroundings are picturesque. May give it a miss, after having seen several other lagoons in the vicinity.

I'm so glad we were able to see this amazing place before it potentially disappears.
Contrary to what other reviewers have said, the decline of the pools here isn't to do with lack of care by the local community who manage this site, and is everything to do with the tens of years of drought that Chile is suffering.
The community custodians are doing their best to keep the site as pristine as possible, and are kind and welcoming in difficult and sad circumstances.
This is an incredible place, even reduced in scope as it is. Sure, if you want the Instagram photos that people were able to take when all seven pools were full and azure, you're not going to get that. Is the road out to the site corrugated dirt? Yes. Is it a long drive? Yes. However, the chance to stand on the vast salt plain and see the might of the surrounding mountains, or even better to float in an incredibly salty bright blue pool while looking at the vast sky and the mountains shimmering through the desert heat haze is truly humbling.
Knowing that this community has invested in making this site into something for people to visit and is then in peril of losing their special site and their investment to climate change, in conjunction with the perspective of being so tiny in such a massive, unforgiving landscape makes this a place worthy of a visit.
Note, as I've said this landscape is hostile. There is no fresh water, there are no showers. You will be caked in salt when you come out of the pool. You're not allowed to wear suncream in the pool. You do need to prepare for this trip. It's not like the photos that were posted a few years ago. It's still worth going

visited it on the afternoon tour (2:30PM) - the drive there was just over an hour. I would personally not drive there - not worth the risk of the flat tire in the scorching heat. The pools are busy (especially the last one which is bigger). We actually liked the first one which was mostly empty around 5PM. My only gripe is that there is not enough time given at the pools - 1.5 hours feels a bit rushed...

In the middle of nowhere appear these beautiful salt lagoons. It is a real sight to look into the depths of some of them, silently to hear how the salt around them creaks in the middle of the desert. We could not experience floating in them since for conservation they are closed to the bathroom, it is understood and appreciated that they care about these unique places.
Sadly there are always uneducated tourists who try to harm the environment, but caregivers do their job tirelessly.
Unmissable.

The road there is not worth it, we now call it a scammie place lol. On their website it says you can go in the water, but upon arrival they told us that the website is not updated, one can't go in the water anymore. There are like 7 pools in total, most around 2 meter square in size .....

Our trip included Bolivia so we wanted to see something more unique in San Pedro area. My local friend recommended checking it out. We were glad we went there by joining a tour! The view was breathtaking plus we were able to jump into one of the lagoons! We were floating as if we were in the Dead Sea! Really amazing experience!

Not worth the drive! There are seven pools and you can only swim in the first one. Which was small and the water was not clear. The one that is all over Instagram, the clearest one, is no longer open to swim in. Not worth the hype and the long, bumpy road. Skip this and go to the swimming lagoon 25 mins from San Pedro.

You can only enter by 4 pm and it is about 1h drive from SPA to Baltinache. So be sure to leave SPA by around 2:30 pm to leave room for any delays since it is a gravel road for most of the way. Enjoy it!

Hola!
