Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visitors planning to explore Lagunas Altiplanicas should be wary of the perplexing ticketing process and questionable value for the entrance fee. The requirement for online ticket purchases and a mandatory check-in at Socaire is not communicated, a fact we frustratingly discovered only after being turned away at the entrance roadblock—a 29 km journey from Socaire climbing one kilometer in altitude (there were no signs either). The absence of an on-site ticket purchase option at this roadblock is a significant oversight.

Another concern here is the apparent lack of value for the ticket price. The fee, as it stands, seems to only facilitate a roadblock, limiting access to the lagoons, without offering any facilities or services in return. This aspect, along with the bizarre process to check in in Socaire, resulted in a disappointing experience for us and several other visitors we observed having to U-turn at the roadblock.

Given these circumstances, I would not recommend a visit to Lagunas Altiplanicas until these systemic issues are resolved. As an alternative, Chaxa Lagoon provides a more visitor-friendly experience (although it is cash only entrance). It's crucial for the National Forest Corporation to address these issues urgently to make it a worthwhile visit for future travellers.

We didn't mind the drive to these gorgeous lakes (at 13,000+ ft, BTW!). It turned to a dirt road fairly close to the lakes, but was well graded so would be easy for a car to do it (we were in a truck so definitely no problem). We drove ourselves but lots of people were taking tours, so the driver would drop them on one end of the lake and pick them up on the other, if they wanted to walk. The road was well-marked so certainly no trouble finding it...AND, we passed the Tropic of Capricorn sign on the way there...bonus!

The views are stunning, just amazing how beautiful this barren desert can be, as the colors are so vibrant. Chile is truly a country of many contrasts.

Simply a beautiful place to visit. Was lucky enough to see wild vicuñas grazing by the side of this lake. My iphone camera did not do justice to this perfect place.

Take this trip to see a corner of the world that is as unique as it is beautiful. The aridity of the terrain reveals a vast openness and perspective, as one can take in hundreds of miles of 360 views. We found Vive Atacama travel agency professional and our tour guide, Rodrigo very energetic, enthusiastic, and helpful. Listen to authentic Chilean music while on the bus between stops.

These lakes are beautiful and the pictures you will take here will not do it justice. You are high up in the mountains but can still see mountain tops. Be careful with altitude sickness and move slow and do as the guides tell you if you are not used to it. Otherwise, go and enjoy it!

I get there by myself, the road is a little bumpy but you do not need a 4x4.
There is a car park near the 2 lagoons, and you don't need to walk much to enjoy the place.

It snowed days before we drove to Lagunas Miscanti and Miniques, and it was magical. The place is maintained such that everyone gets a clear view of both lagoons without worrying about crowding visitors.
