This summer palace hunting resort of the Qing emperor is probably the highlight of the city of Chende. We visited this massive area in mid spring and some of the lakes were still frozen. It must be quite a retreat for the imperial family to...More

It was a short visit lasting more than 4 hours but a quick walk through and then a nice coach ride through the forest were really great value for money, especially for those of us over 60 years of age. May is a good season...More

This is the palace that the old emperor had constructed to spend his summer in. I believed the temperature and climate here is much better. A very big compound filled with a wide array of ancient artifacts and structures! A world unesco heritage site!

It may have been our guide but I didn't get much out of the museum section where you first enter the park. The grounds were far more interesting with small temples/houses dotted around the lake. There was one area where some of the locals were...More

If you are in Beijing and have some days left, I recommend Chengde as one of the destinations. But you have to stay at least, 1 night. The Summer Resort is a very beautiful place, with a lot of temples/buildings left from the last dynasty....More

This might be where the Qing emperors of China spent their summer and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but it has lost all of that atmosphere. It is just a park. As parks go, it is quite a nice park and very large. The footpaths...More
