The summer palace was the retreat for the emperors when th eweather got hot in Beijing. Today it is a large park as well as housing the royal apartments and the longest painted corridor in the world. The gallery alone is worth th evisit, with beautiful paintings on every surface. You can climb through the pagodas to view the whole... More

Chengde is not as used to westerners as we expected. The summer resort is very picturesque but in need of some renovation. It is also smaller than expected and charges much more in terms of entry fees than anywhere else we visited in China, including the Forbidden City in Beijing with which it does not compare. The park area is... More

Lovely extensive grounds to walk around and take trips around the lovely lakes. Good for a half or whole day out, especially in nice weather. Very pretty and peaceful gardens, interspersed with calm lakes and flowers. A lovely scenic and relaxing place including lovely buildings and lots of history. A must see in Chengde.

Been here with my girlfriend on Sept 16 2016. We had not the best weather (26 degrees, but cloudy), this meant it wasn't that crowded. We actually did find spots where we were alone for 10 minutes. The park was a beautiful sight to see. Make sure you pack something to eat at one of the many pavilions. You will... More

With my hubby together ,we visited many lake and water wonders,we explored this vast summer imperial palace where... More

The Imperial Mountain Resort is a relaxing place to explore. It is vast and beautiful, resembling the Forbidden City with its many buildings and beautiful architecture. Originally built as a training grounds and quarters for the soldiers under Emperor Kangxi, the areas around the city are lovely to behold and the Resort is in the heart of Chengde.

It’s definitely a tourists’ destination in town. I say in town, because it’s only 15-20 minutes walk from the city business center, and the public transit (buses) is unbelievably convenient to take you there. It’s truly vast and with many historic anecdotes about the emperors’ visits to this resort. The peony gardens are beautiful, and so are the lakes, bridges,... More

Very nice grounds. Since I have visited the Forbidden city, the palace appears like a repetition. But the lakes and the buildings beyond are extremely worth the visit. You can spend 4-5 hours going round the grounds.

The design of this palace mimicked many palaces and gardens in China. For example, you can see a copy of Lion Forest Garden (Suzhou, Jiangsu Province) here. But the copy is not kept as well as the one in Suzhou. And the most famous building in this palace - Yanyu Lou - is a copy of the Yanyu Lou in... More
