Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The King City Park is principally pleasant but nothing really extraordinary - attractions for kids are horribly overpriced - as in July there aren't peonies blossoming, eventually we selected the wrong time to come to the park

Luoyang has no shortage of parks and this is maybe one of the better ones, it doesnt really hold much for the traveler for the majority of the year. Of course, this park and ALL the parks in Luoyang are very active during the annual Peony festival, but for the remaining 11months of the year there is little else happening.. You will find things going off on the other national holidays too but they can vary greatly.
The park does have a fun fair and a zoo, and has seen extensive expansion with even more beds for flowers and so on.
Unless you have a few days to spare I would skip this place and go somewhere else in the city, although due to its location it can be easy to pop in on your way to the old city but don't plan to spend more than an hour.

I went to the Park on the 1st of May - a public holiday in China . So there were a lot of people but I never felt crowded . I actually went to see the pandas at the zoo , but they have been moved to another location . But I did see some tigers , even a white one . There were some beautiful peonies that was still flowering in the gardens . And there was a huge variety of foods available . Some of them was very strange for me as a South African . A lot of vendors were selling things to the visitors . The park and bathrooms was nice and clean .

There was nothing really here when I went in September, although I have heard it is beautiful when the flowers come out in April and May. There is usually an entry fee, although it was free when I went.

Popular with the locals. There are people here all times of the day, there are locals doing Chinese opera and aunties dancing, men playing chess, and women playing cards or mahjong.

I am sure that the park is much nicer in peony season, but in November it is just overgrown and ill-kempt. There are some interesting statues and the monument to the ho-tu and lo-shu is nice if you are interested in early Chinese astronomy and mathematics.
The zoo that forms part of this park is possibly the saddest place I have ever seen. It is mostly empty and thankfully, many of the animals advertised simply are not there. I say thankfully, because the wolves, lions and tigers are kept in tiny, dirty spaces. They look like they have gone crazy and just pace back and forward like they have severe mental issues. The zoo was built in the 1950s and is kept as though it still is the 1950s.
Maybe it is worth visiting the park in peony season, but definitely don't go to the zoo.

We visited this park in early April 2012. Then the Peony Festival had just started an around 1/3 of the flowers were blossoming.
Beautiful! If you are in Luoyang during the Peony festival - then visiting this park (or some of the other parks of the City) is a must!
