An entire hillside of Buddhist grottoes of various sizes from Tang Dynasty 1500 years ago. Some frescoes still remain. The park is Eco-friendly making a nice walk to behold this living Tang Dynasty history. Definitely a number one historical site in Luoyang, and in Henan. There is QQ wifi throughout to receive the site's explanation

We spontaneously bought tickets and took a bullet train into Luoyang from Beijing and it was a great decision. The grottoes are quite close to the bullet train station, and cab fares are much cheaper than in big cities. The grottoes are well preserved and delicately fascinating, I personally loved the view from across the river where you could see... More

Longmen Grottoes is very large. If you intend to see this place in detail, you may need a few days. For us, we traveled from XiAn to LuoYang via high speed rail for a day trip so we decided to only cover the Western Hills Grottoes, XiangShan Temple (and Chiang Song villa), and the Bai Ju Yi cemetery. First of... More

This amazing place is a must see, when coming to Luoyang. For me it was the only reason to come here. Reachable by several different local busses (2 Yuan each way, it is an adventure riding these local busses). The Ticketoffice has a big parking space and you can take a electric car to the grottos entrance, but I walked... More

If you are around the area you need to see it. One of the most amazing things I've seen. Make sure you have enough time to truly enjoy the carvings on the mountain. You can take bus 81 back and forth from downtown, it's only 2 yuan each way.

Excellent and not to be missed if you are close. A fair way to walk but not an issue. The nr 1 place to visit in and around Luoyang.

Truly amazing. Really lovely setting. Astounding that there is such a special collection of Buddhas carved into a mountainside. Truly a must see.

Though it was freezing cold, the place was worth a visit. Amazing Buddha sculptures in thousands. For those interested in the details, voice guide in English is available via WeChat download. However, I find the presentation a bit slow and boring. Those who don't mind reading, there are guided card at each of the main attractions. Need to climb fair... More

I took a day trip from Xi'an with some girls from the hostel. We didn't see any other Western tourists, which made it a really "authentic" experience. There's quite a bit of walking, so if you're not keen on walking for a few hours (up and down some stairs), then maybe only do a portion of the grottoes.

I first heard of Longmen grottoes when searching for the more famous Shaolin temple. However, I'm glad for the reviews on trip advisor, this attraction alone is worth a trip to Luoyang. The guide Lisa recommended on trip advisor was excellent. She recommended the best way to travel from Zhengzhou was by train, picked us up from the train station... More
