We adored it: it’s a place to visit absolutely.
It’s well organized and even if it’s crowded you can enjoy it and take your time to take some good pictures. In summer time is very hot so bring some water with you or buy some...More
If you are in Xi'an Province it is very convenience to take a bullet train to Longmen Grottoes, Luoyang. The location was equipped with buggy, ferry rides and shops. What will you witness was years of dedications and faith of an individual to carve the...More
We tried to book a tour from Xian since it is only 1 and half hour speed train to Longmen Grottoes station but it was really expensive, some were about $500, including train and entrance tickets. I found Lisa's contact (firstname.lastname@example.org) in a few Trip...More
The grottos are beautiful, but book a private tour guide if you want a guided tour in English. The tourist area supplies audio guides and personal guides on site for rent, but both only in Chinese.
You only need half a day there to see...More
Absolutely remarkable - intricate carvings/sculptures (around 110,000 of them) that were created over several hundred years, the earliest one that you'll see and that's still relatively well preserved dates back to 420AD.
The visitor center (northwest gate) is ridiculously far from the site. TAKE THE...More
Assuming your a solo traveller and not part of a group, starting from Luoyang.
Luoyang is still basically laid out in the ancient Chinese style of a rigid grid pattern. Because the river runs through it there are some distortions.

We did a day trip from Xian via high speed train. A guide was pre-arranged and so he picked us up from train station.
The Grottoes is only 10mins drive away from the train station. The area where the Grottoes are is very pretty.
Went to the grottoes on a day trip from Xi'an, very easy to do by train. It takes about 1h30 to get there. Beautiful sightseeing along the river, where you can admire the carving of buddhist statues done more than 1500 years ago. Follow the...More
Got to agree with Kuodo C. Don't think would get to enjoy the detail and workmanship if looking late in the day, and other than the larger carvings I didn't see any lighting. If your schedule could be re-arranged I would... More

Hi, we stayed in Luoyang. But I supposed it is alright to do a day trip from Zhengzhou. Highspeed train from Zhengzhou is only around 2hrs. You can take a bus or cab from Longmen Luoyang train station when you arrived. You can hire a local guide but the Grottoes are straight forward clockwise route. You can't get lost.
