This historic museum traces the journey of the civil rights advocates of the 1950s and 60s, who changed the course of American history. The struggle for equality for Black Americans is chronicled here, from the Jim Crow laws in the 1800s to the freedom rides, sit-ins and demonstrations of the 1960s.

Fantastic

Great opportunity to learn about the history of civil rights. The exhibit was self paced and many interesting things to see. Would recommend.

This place made my heart swell with pride and my eyes teary. Stories undertold shine bright here! This is a must see for all families. Make sure your camera flash is off before you begin the tour.

A visit to BCRI makes me feel as if I've stepped back into history. This is a must see for visitors, for sure, but also for all citizens of this area. It is sobering and transforming.

I wasn't sure how I'd react, whether I'd like it or not but it's SO well presented. It captures history that we cannot afford to forget. It is American history and while some of it is ugly there are many beautiful moments too. Well worth your time. You'll be glad you went.

This is one of those memorable museums, like the Holocaust Museum in DC. Moving, unexpectedly, for everyone who has ever visited. Gave it 4 stars because it is expensive. So wish it were cheaper. But a must see in Bham.

The exhibits flow very nicely and give an in depth view of the times. Everyone in Birmingham is very proud of their history and part in the civil rights movement while acknowledging the darkness but rejoicing in the light.
