Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Before I get started, the person that just gave this place a two star rating because they didn't like the performer needs to review performers on performers pages not on the venue pages in my opinion.

I love this place and mainly because it's a listening a room. You can't even see acts like James Taylor or Jack Johnson or Ray Lamontagne or Stevie Wonder anymore without hearing people talk around you. The days of respect for the performers, and and fans that want to listen to the music at concerts, is mostly over in the world but not at Moonlight. Sound system is great and music is what you will hear not distracting talk. As a bonus, you can bring your own food and drink including adult beverage with no cork fees, etc. You won't have to hear a bartender popping open beer bottle tops or pulling ice out of a cooler or discussing drink orders with patrons. Ticket prices are always reasonable too.

Highly encourage folks to go to this venue and see it for themselves but maybe do your homework online to make sure you have a good shot at liking that night's performer. If you do happen to like them, it's usually pretty easy to meet the performers and even get an obligatory photo with them to post on Facebook :-).

Many thanks for highlighting Moonlight's efforts to control the parts of a music experience that we can---- sometimes at a restaurant, even though the silverware's clean and the wait staff is attentive, the entree might be undercooked or the soup's too thin--- the customer comes away with an unhappy view, and that's understandable. We're pleased to say that Moonlight's artists are almost ALWAYS outstanding performers, and yes indeed you can explore their websites in advance to evaluate their suitability to your expectations. We appreciate your support!!!!

There are a lot of positive reviews here, so we apparently attended on an "off" night performer-wise.

That can happen--- and there are times when we admit to being less than pleased with a particular performer's efforts--- but happily, not many. Best we can do is "set the table"--- our quality control kinda ends when the show starts, at that point it's up to the artist to deliver the goods that the admission ticket pays for. Thanks so much for taking a chance on Moonlight--- it appears you were visiting from out of town, and we regret that you probably won't have the opportunity to try us again, a second visit would hopefully give you the kind of favorable impression expressed in the reviews below. We appreciate your honesty, and encourage you to give us another chance if you are back this way again!

This was our first time to visit MOTM. A small and intimate venue tucked in a quiet and lovely older spot. I appreciated this idea of a "listening room" and the hospitality offered by owner and musicians alike. Rough around the edges only makes the room work towards a very pleasant evening. Loved David Jones and the fact he uses locals when he's here. Birmingham has a wealth of talented musicians. There was nothing about the evening we didn't enjoy. We will definitely be back and most certainly will be recommending MOTM to others. Thank you for your vision!

I had never been to this venue before, but it was definitely a surprise! The staff was extremely hospitable, and the music was superb! We made sure to bring our own drinks, and seating was plenty. We were told we came on a slow night, so it might be more crowded on other days. All in all I definitely plan to come back again. Anyone visiting or living in Birmingham needs to experience Moonlight On the Mountain

Thanks so much for your lovely comments-- we don't often have a big crowd for our programs, so we appreciate every person who DOES take the time to come out and enjoy original acoustic music, live and up close--- especially those who are willing to spread the word. We'll look for you again soon!

If you enjoy intimate music venues...this is the place to go. We found this place on TripAdvisor and we were so glad we did. The cost is $15 pp for an evening of great music. Bring your own snack and drinks which makes this a very inexpensive evening.

Great venue for music lovers. Lots of variety in a music room for serious music enthusiasts. Bring your food and your choice of beverage and sit down and let the acts that Keith Harrelson presents wow you. Always top notch talent.

Many thanks for your kind words--- Moonlight's been a one-man operation for several years, now we are pleased to share your compliments with a small corps of volunteers who can even run the place in my absence, as they have done just recently. We are all proud of the positive responses we generate from artists and audience alike!

Friendly people make this hidden gem worth visiting. Saw Justin Johnson last Saturday night. An intimate venue where you get to meet the artist and hear great music. Bring your own food and beverage and the staff will set up a table for you if you're not to late.

I found this place on Trip Advisor, and after reading all of the good reviews, decided to check their schedule. When I saw that a bluegrass band would be there while we visiting from out of state, I just knew we had to go. This is a great place to hear some great music. We met the owner and the wife of one of the band members and they were all so gracious. The regulars all bring their own wine, beer, and food and the early arrivals get one of the few tables. We found chairs by a wall and had a great view of the stage (there really isn't a bad seat in the house). The band was incredibly good and we had an amazingly fun time. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Birmingham.

I saw my 6th or 7th show here last night, and just like every time I've been to Moonlight, it was amazing. The talent on stage is matched by the respect in the room. I don't know how Keith gets the level of performers who come here, but I'm glad he does. Never a bad show or bad seat in the house, and I always feel like I got a bargain.

We love going to Moonlight on the Mountain. It's a small venue where you get to sit close and really hear the musicians. Nothing but music. Bring your own food and beverages or drink their coffee. Singer/Songwriters from all over get booked in for a couple of hours of personal music making. Great fun. Check out the web site. Admission varies depending upon the show. My guess is the average admission is $12.00 per person.
