Fun and learning never end at McWane Science Center, a nonprofit, hands-on museum and IMAX(R) Dome Theater. Four floors of interactive exhibits celebrate science and wonder - from an amazing collection of dinosaurs to innovative environmental showcases, imaginative early childhood playgrounds, and an awe-inspiring aquarium. The energy and excitement of discovery spring to life through an extensive lineup of science demonstrations performed daily by talented educators. The adventure intensifies in the IMAX(R) Dome Theater, where wide-eyed visitors experience the sights and sounds of breathtaking films on a 5-story-tall screen surrounded by 3 tons of high-intensity speakers.

This is a bit of a cross between a "science museum" and a "children's museum" -- lots of great child-oriented activities that are somewhat related to science. Some of the activities have more science content, but mostly it's just really fun stuff for kids to do. My kids are young (3 and 5) and they always have a blast (we're... More

I have been taking my son to McWane since he was little. We have visited many different children's museums across the US when we travel, but this is by far the best Children's Museum we have ever visited. There is so much for your child to experience, your family can spend an entire day there. And the third floor exhibit... More

Now McWane is an attraction for all ages (wedding receptions are even held here!) There are so many scientific HANDS-ON exhibits for the young ones to adults. Three levels of super - fun as well as educational learning. This used to be a department store in former days. The staff is phenomenal! Add an IMAX theater, and you have many... More

Nice science museum, specially for kids. You can easily spend at least 2 hours there, have many interesting things to see and teach to the kids. Th food court is also good and with a reasonable price, but it's duty, they need a better maintenance there. Overall we had a good time at the museum and recommend to everyone.

I visited this center on a school trip with my children and niece and to my surprise it was very good and we all had a good time playing with everythiing. The only part I did'nt like was the food that they served us but they made up for it by having a food court where you buy different foods.

My family invest in the membership. The fee for membership pays for itself in one visit. The rest of the year it's like you're going for free. This place puts a smile on my granddaughters faces, entertaining them for hours. As an adult I must admit I enjoy the fun as well. So if you're thinking of an investment for your... More

My kids always enjoy it. Year after year you do get that same ole same ole feeling though. They have expanded recently however. Its great for children of different ages. The imax is a fun must see. Its one of the best attractions about birmingham. Especially for kids......

I was looking for things to do in Birmingham and this one was a winner. Mostly geared towards children, so keep that in mind. My friend and I enjoyed exploring all the exhibits. There was a great balance of both interactive and static displays. We also enjoyed watching an IMAX movie which can be part of a bundle deal for... More
