This is an excellent museum that will give you an insight into the history of Turpan. The mummies were very interesting to see and there was a lot of information posted about the exhibits in both English and Chinese. This is a must see if you are in Turpan.

This museum is one of my favorite spot in Turpane. Not only it's free for all, it has very impressive collections of dinosaurs, 1500 years old mommies and tons of unique Uyghur historical collections. I have learned so much about this region's history and people after visiting there. Try your best to stop by here before you leave Turpane. It... More

Modern, moderately sized and well laid out / maintained museum, also cool !!. Most famous for its collection of human mummies perfectly preserved due to the arid climate of the region. The mummies were found in the nearby Flaming Mountains and appear to be incredibly well preserved complete with hair, the oldest is thought to be 3200 years old. Both... More

Very modern en well layed out museum. Gives a good insight in the importance of the whole region during several era's. English explanation is better than average. Museum is a good introduction to other sites near Turpan.

This museum isn't great but it isn't bad either. There isn't a lot of English in the museum for foreign visitors, but there are some cool artifacts there to see. The Xinjiang Provincial Museum in Urumqi is bigger and better if you're there.

After visiting the old ruins around Turpan, we enjoyed seeing the reconstitution of statues, mummies and artifacts putting some life to the various locations. Plus the dinosaurs are always a hit with kids

A well laid out museum with some very interesting pieces and good displays but you do not need long here and can easily get round in 1 - 2 hours.

The museum was an excellent place to spend a few hours in the middle of the day; it has excellent air conditioning. The museum is really well put together and I am so glad we did it first. It helped give us an understanding for the surrounding area and the local sites. We only had 1.5 days in Turpan so... More

Turpan's museum is surprising in a good way. The historical exhibits include artifacts and other items related to local history. The best 2 exhibits are the Dinosaur fossils and the Mummies. The dry desert climate has naturally preserved the mummies so they are are an amazing view into the hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of years of civilization in the Turpan... More
