This place has the world's biggest thermometer which routinely reaches over 170 degrees due to coal self combustion underground. The name is very apt.

As far as flaming well I suppose it was red and a neat spot to stop off for a few minutes and snap some pictures from the viewing area. Not amazing, definitely liked the book better but alright overall, a bit of a let down...More

It's not bad, but being able to just look at it from one direction unless you want to fly is disappointing.

When we went, the weather was great. Sunny, not foggy. We got to take great shots in various areas of the mountain and would even stop in the middle of the highway. Everyone would do this! There were canyons and rivers at the bottom of...More

It is a red sand stone mountain. One of the Silk Road stop in the ancient time. The one you must see is the big thermometer that standing up there. Otherwise, that's not really worth to go over there.

Was with a tour group and we reached early in the morning around 9ish to avoid the hordes of tourists and the merciless hot sun. I would say it’s a place where most Chinese would be able to relate easily since it’s a scene from...More

It really is not worth the time in getting out to the so called "Flaming Mountain". The mountain itself is pretty bland, and the purpose in getting tourists there is to sell them entry into the park area, then sell them Camel Rides (they actually...More

This is a tourist trap. Flaming Mountain is famous because it was featured 8n a classic Chinese novel, but there really is nothing here. The admission fees are a rip-off. Nearby, there is the Flaming Mountain Canyon, and it is much more impressive. It is...More

Pretty much the whole time you are in the Turpan Depression, you are driving around and in the Flaming Mountains. It really isn't necessary to go to the tourist bus parking area and pay to look at the world's largest thermometer.

Date of visit: 18/09/2016 As the flaming mountain is visible from everywhere you don't need to pay the ticket entrance if you have no intention to climb it (the local driver said it was possible) or pay extra bucks to get in a small plane...More

Hi Jenny Where did you stay in Turpan? Can you please recommend a mid range hotel that is near to night markets in Turpan and close to other attractions? Also to go around to the attractions near Turpan , where to get a taxi with a English speaking guide for a reasonable price? We are husband and wife planning to go there 31 May for two nights from Brisbane. Any suggestions to make the most of our stay in two nights and 3 days? We will highly appreciate your help in this regard....feeling lost so far. Kind regards, Vibha

If you're want to travel by train, there possibly is one. Just check it out. Train travel is not very enjoyable and it is difficult to organize tickets unless you speak Mandarin. It takes about two hours in a private bus to... More
