While everything in the old town of Lijiang is overpriced (calculate around 200 RMB per meal for two people) - and that's on top of a 80 RMB 'town entrance fee'. However, if you are willing to spend the money, you'll get a look at a truely beautiful ancient Chinese town. We visited not only Lijiang, but also Dali. And... More

Just like western old towns, Gucheng is paved with cobbled stone throughout and lined with many shops selling local tea, snacks and souvenirs. Wearing Heels are highly not advisable as the pathway is very uneven. Curiously there are many shops selling drums here and at one glance you might be fooled to think that this African drum is one of... More

Yes, it is a little touristy but there is a warm feeling to the maze of small roads and canals. The old town comes to life at night. The tea houses are very good here.

There is no doubting that Lijiang is a most picturesque town, beautifully restored, lovely architecture, canals winding among the houses (ok, shops, restaurants and guesthouses) and Yulong Mountain as a spectacular backdrop. But man is it packed. We only saw about a dozen or fewer non-Chinese tourists a day. But the streets are filled with local holiday makers. If you... More

Is this place touristy? Yes! Should you go anyway? Definitely! The town is incredibly beautiful and very interesting just to walk around in for a day or two. I went in with the expectation of this being a horrible tourist trap, and in some ways it was .... however I enjoyed walking through the beautiful streets, eating the tasty food... More

Going round this nook and corner, you can view a lot of happenings. A lot of shops selling, food and drinks, music corner and many more. There's bar also in the town. Some budget hotels are located in this Old town itself. Lots of things to do and you can get lost going round so many areas. Beautiful nite view... More

This is the ONE OLD TOWN that must see in China! It is so beautiful and well preserved that one doesn't mind paying the conservation fee. The grounds are so beautiful and historic....it doesnt look commercialized or artificial like many oldtowns in china. It has so many architectures that are beautiful. We even managed to catch some shows and musicians... More

The old town is actually made up of 3 little towns, so the visitor has to be sure which section they are heading for! You could do each section per day, such is the sprawling nature of Lijiang old town. Exploring the old town has to be done on foot, as no vehicles are allowed in. You are greeted by... More

This was my second visit to the Lijiang Old Town. Unlike the first visit, I stayed inside part of the Old Town, but still outside the official Old Town boundaries. I would recommend doing that, if you can find a place that suits your accommodation needs. There are so many inns and hotels, you should be able to find something.... More
