We have enjoyed this a lot! There is a beach right in front of it and a nice restaurant where we enjoyed our dinner after visiting the church and museum. The beach is also nice and is quite close to the centre of the town.

We were only able to walk the grounds of the monastery because the church was locked. Nevertheless, the grounds were beautiful and we were happy to be able to see them.

In a town chock full of interesting attractions, most people decide to spend time in the neighboring islands. That's fine, but one should definitely enjoy the town's churches and monasteries as well. Franciscan Monastery will conquer your hearts from the moment you walk around the harbor and spot it. I was lucky enough to be there a night they offered... More

This is very close to one of Hvar's public beaches, just around the corner from the port where the big ships and boats dock. The Monastery has a lovely small cloisters with a Museum through one door and the Church through another on the edge of the cloisters. The Church is small but has ?5 side altars in addition to... A short walk down the Riva from St Stephen's square takes you to this delightful old Monastery. There's a beautiful courtyard where they hold concerts in the summer and it looks stunning inside and out - day or night.

We visited Hvar during the Summer Music Festival and were lucky enough to see two concerts at this beautiful venue. The cloisters were open to the stars and the sounds resonated around the historic walls, making it quite magical. It was easy to imagine how it sounded with the Franciscan monks singing and praying. I feel very lucky to have... More

Unfortunately there are so many restrictions to visit this place. No photography being the main one. Is fairly limited what you can see and information. One amazing thing is the silence once inside.

Beautiful seaside monastery, historical place that often holds open-air concerts in the yard during summer. Also, quite good place to swim.

The actual "monastery" is not open for tours but the museum and the church are the special places to tour. In the courtyard, St. Francis kneels in prayer (another statue just like it graces the entry to the Benedictine Monastery). Buy the entry ticket and begin in the museum. Look for the over-sized (wall-to-wall) painting of the Last Supper (circa... More
