St. Mary Island in Veliko Jezero (Great Lake) in Mljet National Park has a beautifully-situated 12th century Benedictine monastery and church, accessed by a short boat ride. Benedictines from the monastery of St.Mary in Pulsano on Gargano were invited to Mljet by Desa, Duke of...More

The Benedictine monastery looks impressive from far away and if one didn't know beforehand might even think this were a castle from 12th century. However, once you dock and exit the boat, and you begin to explore or guide tells you the tragic history of...More

Best part of saint Mary’s island is leaving it. Have a coffee but pack your own lunch as food is overpriced and bland and most of the menu options are not available. Also, bring cash if ya feel like wasting your money as their cars...More

Mljet Island & National Park are small and picturesque as is St Mary Island. However, our whole experience was completely ruined by a mass of rude tourist's that had arrived on an extremely large ocean liner. They pushed & shoved people. In fact one of...More

Although the island is only small you could lose a whole day swimming, relaxing and wandering around this beautiful place. The buildings are wonderfully fairy tale like and swimming off the island in lake is lovely.

There is not much to see here though it was pleasant boat ride out. What made it worthwhile was the excellent swimming and the ease of getting in and out of the water around the island.

As beautiful as the pictures. Take the trip if it’s included in your park fare- the boat trip is short but really nice. We first swam there and then took the boat from the small lake. There are 2 restaurants and you can visit the...More

Yes, you can kayak and they are available for rental. I don't exactly remember where, but if you go to the tourist info office once you are off the shuttle, they will show you on the map.
