Located in the very center of Nin, on the site of the once Roman forum, can be found the remains of a monumental Roman temple, the largest on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. They date from the second half of the 1st century AD, from the reign of the Roman emperor Vespazian 69-79 AD. His name appears on the inscription engraved on the frieze of the Temple's facade. The plan of the Temple shows two parts of the same size, the sanctuary (cella) on the west side and a porch in front of it on the east side. The outer circumference of the building was 33m long and 23.5m wide. The sanctuary inside was divided into three areas, separated from each other by two columns on each side. Most likely sculptures of deities were placed on it. Entry to the central area was through a portal from which fragments of the lintel and door frame remain. In front of the sanctuary there is a large porch that on its east side facade had six fluted columns.
A monumental staircase on the facade led to the podium of the Temple whose foundations can still be seen today. In the Temple there was a Corinthian column that was originally 17 meters high.

There's not much left of this temple, just some foundations really. It is, however, impressive that it existed at all. Taken with the rest of Nin, it contributes to the overall experience of the island.

I wouldn't make a trip to see this. We wandered around town and came across this rebuilt column and some ruins that are very random.

All town IS very old and intetesting. We just go for lunch. The menu in chosen restaurant was pore. And we expected more.

The remains of the Roman temple are exhibited in open space within the town of Nin. There is no charge, you can admire the ruins and take pictures. Close to this place the foundations of a Roman villa have been discovered, but that site has not been fully explored yet.

There are a number of Roman remains around the town but not much of any of them really. You cannot really miss them as you walk around though so worth a look
