Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dating back to the 15th Century, the Sjeverna gradska vrata is the northern gate to the entrance to the Trogir's old walled city. The structure is adorned with a statue of St. Ivan Ursin. The Gate features a splendid Renaissance design with rounded arches and banded columns. A set of stairs leads to the ramparts of the gate where you can get a close up of the statue.

North Gate is one of the gates located in the surroundings of the old town of Trogir, in Dalmatian Coast. It is a stone gate, not very well preserved (it is almost impossible to see the wall) and you can see, if you walk around the old town, near the promenade.

Well preserved gate with statue on top, up the stairs. You will more than likely just go through it as part of your visit in town.

Average interest, worth a picture.

Walking by, at the first glance, it's just an old gate... so ? Croatia has plenty of these...Be a little curious and go through...another world will open for you. The old, far away days when arts were very important, when a town was paved with marble; it's shining nowadays, from so many people walking or fussying with other things.
Don't follow anybody or anything, just walk through the old town at random. After every corner, you'll discover something new to your eyes and mind. Follow your 'nose' and you'll see things that are not on the tourist map.
And what's more, you'll be alone, you'll have time to discover everything...in peace.

The North (Land) Gate to Trogir is more or less opposite the bridge from the bus station and the mainland. A Renaissance structure, the cornice supports a carving of the Lion of St Mark and above that, a statue representing one of the patron saints of the town, St Ivan. It appears that the gateway once had a drawbridge and you can see the grooves where this was.

Most of tourists enter through this gate and then discover the old city of Trogir. It is like traveling back to the history, narrow streets, restaurants, shops. And although it looks like a maze, you will not get lost! Take some time and just wander around old city.

you know its special as you pass through the archway and see all the little shops and houses tightly packed within the walls. i love the caper bushes growing through cracks and the calm atmosphere. The people of Trogir are so polite and pleasant its a joy to wander around.

Gate to enter Old Town from the North of land side. A short walk leads you to the central square and the main sights.

Parts of Trogir's old city wall remain along with two gates: the North Land Gate and South Marine/Sea Gate. The North Gate is on the coastal side, at the end of a small bridge. It is somewhat unassuming, in a small section of wall crammed between two shops. The north gate was built around the year 1656 in Romanesque style. Large rectangular stone blocks frame a rounded arch. Atop is a Gothic 15th century statue of St. Ivan Trogirski, the patron saint of Trogir in Bishop's robes and miter. Also known as John, the Bishop of Trogir, he was consecrated at the end of the 11th century. In 1105, Bishop John prevented Hungarian King Koloman from destroying Trogir during a war of succession. John is buried in St. Stephens Cathedral in the Chapel of Saint Ivan Trogiranin. During the Middle Ages, the city gates were closed at night; latecomers had to stay outside until morning. Through the gate is Gradska vrata St., connecting to other streets leading to the main square. The gate is always open with no admission fee. It is lit at night, adding to the rpomantic atmosphere of Trogir.
