If you visit Guayaquil but want to know more about its history and the history of Ecuador you must visit the Municipal Museum of Guayaquil. There you will find from the ancient cultures of Ecuador's most iconic characters, the story of Guayaquil and the presidents, besides it has unique and special antiques pieces. Admission is free and offers very good service.
The nicest thing about this museum is the audience because you can watch dramatizations but what I like most is the room where are the president’s gallery you can see from the first president to the current and each one with his respective history. So go to visit the museum to learn more about my city. It really worth a view. You will not regret!.

This I especially enjoyed the displays and information from the early period. The explanations are in Spanish, but you can ask for an English speaking guide. Our guide was very patient and interested in helping us understand the history of Ecuador.

First day so it was about the department of public works and Guayaquil. I was so wrong this place has everything and it doesn’t take long to go through it. Everything from the Amazon to the Galapagos figures in Ecuadorian history . Don’t let the name for you it even has Aztec art I was highly impressed with my visit here very close to the continental hotel where we stayed and across the park iguanas . And the huge Catholic cathedral in one place within walking distance of The riverfront.

We went here a bit by mistake - our guide book does not rate it as the top museum, but it was fantastic. Exhibit descriptions are in Spanish, so I asked an attendant if she spoke English, and we were treated to a two hour personal guided tour and discussion of 12,000 years or Ecuadorian history, from two different members of staff. The second one was called Leslie, but they were both very knowledgeable and interested to discuss everything, including the link between the UK Napoleonic Wars and the Ecuador wars of independence, right up to votes for women and the local wildlife! As we left, we both just said Wow, that was amazing.

The Municipal Museum of Guayaquil is the oldest of Ecuador; it is considered the most important of the city and one of the best in the country. It is located downtown Guayaquil. It is an attractive place to visit, it has archaeological pieces, objects and articles both cultural and historical related to Guayaquil; it is very interesting because you learn a lot about the history of the city. The museum is very organized and it has guides for each of the different areas and each of them is willing to answer any questions or concerns that you have. You can find really interesting things that represent the history of the country from the earliest cultures to the first politicians; we can observe many art paintings. This is a very enriching experience. I recommend it to everybody. Admission is free.

This museum had a lot of very good artifacts. However, it would benefit it's viewrs if an audio re ording were available in order to fully understand the display. this should be presented in at least Spanish and

Good to walk around and you are able to take pictures without any hassle. Covers a bit of everything, pictures of past governors, mock ups of the old town, stuffed animals, skeletons excavated in the ground...and shrunken heads, complete with instructions should you wish to try yourself.
Of particular interest to us was the exhibit on the Devil's Nose Train that we were to travel on later in the holiday.
Worth an hour or so of your time.

We were so lucky to have Lesley to help guide us through the museum. The historical artifacts were wild and the native species section was really outstanding. Truly a must visit. Only open until 3:30 each day and plan at least 1 hour here. Such a great spot to go to learn about the historical aspects of the city and get the feel for the country!

----- Have a great time!
