Good for fabrics, scarfs, shirts and wool items. Dont forget to bargain! Can be quiet on weekdays. Can explore it all in 1 hour. Food available in surrounding streets.

There is quite a bit of quality merchandise to be found at what is locally known as Poncho Plaza. We visited on a weekday morning and found the market to be quite uncrowded. The rule of thumb seemed to be that, by haggling, you could expect an approximately 40% discount off the asking price for just about any item. Be... More

The Otavalo Market is very well known, so at times it can be quite crowded particularly in week-ends, so go on a week-day. There are a lot of artisanal products for sale, but one has to negotiate prices, don't be afraid to negociate for a 30-40 % reduction of what they start with.

We lived in Cotacachi so went to the Otavalo market many times. Huge variety of Indigenous wares. Good quality and prices. Lots of food outlets near so come and go as you want. Try Mi Otavalito

This market is full of lovely things as well as your average touristy crap but i would say its worth a visit if you have the time. It is a full day if traveling from Quito! I went with a friend and her family so had the luck that she could haggle on my behalf in Spanish. As with any... More

We made a stop at this market on a weekday as we were heading to the border town of Tulcan. While there were some nice textiles and the standard Peruvian souvenirs (silver jewelry, backpacks, sweaters etc) if you have been to any other market in Peru, you will be underwhelmed because the market is very small and offers the same... We'd planned our visit to Otavalo market on the basis of the reviews both here and in guide books. We visited on Sunday, knowing it would be quieter but even so we're left wondering what all the fuss is about. If I wanted to buy football shirts I could do it in the UK. Many of the goods are identical,... More

This is huge artisanal market. You can find everything here! Very good place to get souvenirs. And the price is cheap than in Quito. So if you come here for shopping, make sure you buy what you want here. Do not expect you will get it cheaper in Quito. Specially t-shirts. I found out that they are cheaper in Otavalo... More

Otavalo Market is one the biggest markets with artesanias in Latin America and definitely worth a visit. Be prepared to bring a lot of cash because you will want to get everything. You can get gorgeous blankets, table cloths, clothes, jewlery and more for really god prices (bargain!).

I have been there on Sunday (not the main market day, that is on Saturday) by bus from Quito El Carcelen bus station (2,50/3$ ticket). It is 2 hours from Quito, busses are running all day. I have found beautiful ponchos, scarfs and many souvenirs at affordable price. Buying many from one seller is best because you can ask for... More
