Great place to.look.for sweaters woven goods art collectibles and other items. Feel the items for best quality. Most goods that say they are all alpaca are not. They are a mix. There are coffee shops right there and the famous. Pie Shop

This is a wonderful market, full of indigenous creations — most notably colourful clothing of all kinds, belts, scarves, hats, carvings, and jewelry. The merchants almost expect you to barter with them, even if it is only to lower the price a bit. There is...More

There are markets all over Otavalo and Ecuador for that matter. What makes this one different is the 5am to 8 am animal market. People come from all over Ecuador to sell and trade just about anything. Cows, Bulls, horses, sheep, goats, rabbits, pigs, chicken...More

This market is HUGE! We had such fun looking at all the local wares and hand crafted goods. We purchased scarves, hats, blankets and some very interesting snacks; all fairly priced and a great experience.

It's about 2 hours drive from Quito, but it's worth the drive. It's a very fun place to buy all kind of handmade items from local vendors dressed in their typical clothing. Great variety, good to bargain and a nice place to find unique items...More

A vibrant market in a wonderful location. We visited on a Saturday late morning so missed the animal part - such a pity. The market is colorful and alive with tradition. Many bargains to be had if you have the room in your luggage. Very...More

Was glad to go on Friday vs Saturday. I'm not big on bargaining especially since I don't know Spanish but got some great things. A wonderful alpaca scarf, poncho, and wall hanging. I wasn't sure how I'd like it but very gald I went!

This was put on our itinerary by the travel agency we used. I’m realizing that a marketplace is now becoming a must when going to each country you visit. This particular market however was VERY far from Quito. At least a 2 hour, up and...More
