I am not sure why this market in Guamote is listed under Riobamba, which is about a 2 hour bus ride away. The market is on Thursday and all the indigenous people from the surrounding area come and do their weekly shopping. The large market...More

It is interesting to walk among the vendors and see all that they sell. Everything from cooked food, fruits, vegetables, herbs, meats (raw and cooked), clothing, shoes and household goods. The people are friendly and the prices are reasonable.

make sure you stop in Guamote for 2 nights and enjoy the wonderful Thursday market. Choose Inti Sisa as your place to overnight.

A great market, completely non-touristy but with extraordinary sights, also in the animal markets. Everything imaginable is tradedhere, from guinea pigs to potato sacks to hats and agricultural instruments.

My wife and I were traveling around Ecuador and have seen many markets. I think that this ranks at the top for the markets that we have seen so far.

A great place to visit to see indigenous people in a local market. It is spread over several streets and squares. Great to wander and look at the wide variety of goods on sale. The animal market is very special - we saw Guinea pigs,...More
