Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Coming from flat northern England, the whole area is breahtaking. Imagine just motoring along and seeing Cotopaxi? And then climbing it?! Amazing scenery, loved it

They highway is nice and on a clear day will offer some great views of the volcanoes. A couple of them are glacier capped and absolutely stunning. While the views along the highway are great, the volcanoes are even better experienced up close or when hiking and I would highly recommend doing so!

The Avenida is actually the Panamerica Highway. We drove it north to Quito. You can see various volcanoes on both sides of the road, the most famous being Cotopaxi. To see this volcano best you have to turn of the highway and drive into the National Park. On a clear day you can see the summit, but it is often obscured by clouds. There are nice walks in the area.

We didn't realise what a wonderful place Riobamba is - it is sadly under-rated in the guide books. We wish we had put more time aside to explore this lovely city and it's incredible surrounding landscape.

I have often driven through Riobamba on my way from Cuenca to Banos or Quito, and most of these experiences have been disappointing because the cloud cover totally obscured Chimborazo, as well as the other volcanoes nearby. This past time was the exception, and I was rewarded with some stunning vistas.

This amazing drive winds between volcanoes and valleys. Clouds are an issue so you might miss many of the peaks if you don't plan to stay over along the route, and you should as many hikes deserves a longer exploration.

We drove this route with our guide. He pointed out the main peaks (some of which were visible through the clouds) and we admired the scenery. We stopped at various towns for a market, some snacks or just to view the scenery. We loved watching the locals in their rural villages and towns. Many of them still wear their traditional dress which is great. A good trip made better by interpretation of our guide.
