Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This monastery allows you the extraordinary privilege of stepping back into a world which has passed by. In the mid 1850's the town of Berovo was given permission to build its own monastery and church - where the Macedonian Orthodox rite could be practiced.
Today there are just a handful of nuns who observe the offices here - the chapel is quite extraordinary - plain wooden interior - the chanting of the liturgy bringing you immediately into a different time and space.
There are a range of beautiful locally crafted goods which the nuns sell - some made on the premises - icons etc -- others as part of the offering of those working textiles on ancient hand looms in houses around the town. The workmanship is exquisite - a purchase which will always connect you with this most beautiful and special place of devotion and natural beauty.

The monastery is characteristic by its age. We enjoyed the nice story which our host told us. Also, a mosaic gallery is worth to see, but it seems to me too expensive.

The moment you enter the old door and cross the walls of the monastery, you enter a special spiritual space. It is peaceful, and dormant on the first site, but very special... The church was build under strange circumstances... It has to be lower than the road, and the priest had to give his doters hand in marriage to the ruling pasha (from Ottoman empire). The monastery konacs are almost empty. Only few nuns are there (this always was an women monastery)... In the monastery are small museum quarters of old Berovo, and some one can show you where was the first micro electric-plant feeding Berovo streets with electricity during last century...

The monastery was built some 200 years ago some five meters below the ground level, to hide the bell tower from the Turks.
The entrance is fee, the small chapel is nice, but honestly there are plenty of more interesting and attractive small monasteries in the country.
If you are visiting Berovo, for sure you have to see this attraction, but do not come just for the sake of visit.

Bears the same pattern as the Holy Saviour's Church in Skopje. It is built 5 feet below ground in order not to be visible by the Muslim Turks. Well maintained yard and some super intelligent Nuns.

The monastery was built in 1818 by the local preast upon request for permission of building to the Turk’s government. The local
Turkish pasha allowed construction under 3 conditions ... A fairly interesting story that you should hear yourself from local nuns. the interior of the monastery is well preserved and the yard is very nicely arranged. a real paradise for the soul.

Monasteries, castles, cathedrals, synagogues are all on our bucket list of places to visit when out and about. This monastery was well worth the visit and I would highly suggest a visit when in the Berovo area.

Sitting towards the end of the town, the stunning yet very tranquil monastery welcomes you without being ostentatious .
Monastery is build in 1818, and per the Ottoman rule that nothing has to be bigger or ostentatious than mosque the monastery is nothing much from outside. Doesn't even have big cross to mark it as Christian place of worship, till you enter it.
Inside the church which is sunk about 1,5 m is specious and beautiful place of worship dedicated to Archangel Michael.
The sisterhood who takes care of it, does amazing job..

Very old monastery in the heart of Berovo. If you do a trip to the monastery, you have to drive just few more miles to go visit Aurora Resort and Spa - the best hotel on Balcan Peninsula.
