My absolute favourite cave. You have to dive, climb, sled, also. Really great. Highly recommend even it is not to easy to reach.

We left from Lanquin and got to the park right when it opened, there was one other group that was all ready out there. The pools were wonderful to swim in, great hike and Grutas Las Marias an adventure we will never forget.

Definitely a must do. Though you do the entire cave with candlelight there is definitely enough light to be wowed by your surroundings. Such fun to wade through the water, slide down the rocks and feel away from it all. We have done many caves both touristy and as cavers, and loved the water cave. A few safety ropes in... More

We did the Grutas Las Marias as part of the Semuc Champey tour. This was a really cool and adventurous tour in the caves. The tour was led by a local tourguide who provided us with a candle before entering the cave, the candle light gave a really cozy and magical touch to the tour. Climbing over rocks, squeezing yourself... More

You definitly should do this trip! It's very exciting with the small candle! Somethimes it's challenging if you have some claustrofobia, but there are just 1 or 2 small areas.

The cave itself is nothing special but it creates a cool atmosphare going qnd swimming into a cave only with the light of a candle. You can do it barefoot but you habe to be carefull with the rocks below the water. It's not a place you want to get hurt. You can climj up a small waterfall and do... More

We had two guides with a group of about 11 people, and it was great fun! You get given a homemade candle which is the only light inside the caves, you swim while holding this above your head you kind of boulder along the side of walls, and climb ladders and ropes. As I went through I couldn't help but... More

Travelled thru Guatemala to visit these caves - and glad we did! Some write ups mention the 'danger' involved and yes, it could be seen that way - but it could also be seen as fun! Being conservative, as we had 4 more weeks of travelling, I assessed it and decided it was edgy, but safe enough. You are given... More
