The Roatan Institute for Marine Science (RIMS) is ideally located for marine study on the northwest coast of Roatan where over 30 miles of fringing and barrier reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves and shoreline are home to an astonishing profusion of life. Founded in 1989, the primary objective of this facility is the preservation of Roatan's natural resources through education and research. In the past decade RIMS has established itself as a dedicated teaching institution. Our facility is visited year-round by colleges, universities and high schools from abroad to study tropical marine ecosystems and the bottlenose dolphins we house at our facility. Many programs are for academic credit, some are in conjunction with other field research stations, and others are simply introductory courses to the ecology of coral reefs in the Caribbean.

We visited Anthony's Key this while on vacation. Highly recommend the dolphin encounter and swim. During the encounter we were able to get up close and touch and interact with a dolphin. We opted to do the swim - after the encounter, you are given...More

I had done the dolphin interaction session at Bailey's Key several years ago and really wanted to do the dolphin dive this trip. If there was any disappointment it was that the session was not longer. For the dive the dolphins follow the trainer's boat...More

Merideth our trainer was incredible. We played with numerous dolphins in a very safe and cool environment. Highly recommended and could become addicting! What smart mammals!!

As animal advocates, we were really on the fence as to whether this was animal exploitation or fair treatment of the captive animals. Ultimately, we saw that there were some online academic articles that cited work at RIMS so we decided they were probably doing...More

Small museum but quite interesting. Lots of exhibits detailing marine life. I think it only cost $1.

We did the snorkel and swim package. I was able to use a credit card without the 19% interest fee. If you ARE NOT good at snorkeling, (no life jacket), and cannot dive deep to play with the dolphins… Just do the encounter. That alone...More

My family of 5 did the dolphin encounter that is offered here. We loved it. We were a little skeptical at first, as we dont want to contribute to the capturing and negative training that some resorts take part in. However we were told that...More

I believe the encounter was $65? And it's about 45 min with a group of people. You get to touch, watch perform, and take pictures with the dolphin.
