Quite a bustling and vibrant market in Amritsar. Katra Jaimal Singh market is pretty close to the Golden Temple and consists of a labyrinth of narrow streets laid out in all directions. Traffic is a terrible conundrum, the cacophony of all different types of autos, rickshaws and taxis trying to navigate around. There are a jamboree of shops selling an assortment of things. There were a number of shops selling dresses and fabrics - salwars, Patiala Suits, Phulkari clothing, lehengas, jackets etc. There were also shops dedicated to selling the famous Punjabi jooti (shoes), dry fruits, papads and what not. There is considerable amount of price bargaining going on in most shops, so be prepared to haggle!

it s tough to navigate this market but go to Natraj Stores, they are genuine with reasonable pricing. The jooti shop infront of Natraj (Jolly Shoes) have great collection, reasonable and the sales guy (Puneet) is just a fanatstic guy.

This review is specifically about Sandeep di hatti.
They sell tripple the price of on going in market.
They take double price for stiching as well.
I would not recommend to buy anything from them.
Worst experience.
Before you even confirm - he will get the material cut and call the tailor for stiching.
When I personally asked tailor for the stiching charges- he said 200rs for full suit where as the shopkeeper charged me 450 for the same.
He simply charges on his own depending on customers.
According to him - he doesn’t want to sell- hamara to pet bhar gaya hai itseems.
So I said why don’t you give it for free then when aapka pet bhar hi gaya hai to.

Katra Jaimal Singh is a shopping area market for women. You can shop suits, sarees ,phulkaris here. There are apmle number of shops located at both side of the road. One must check the prices before shopping at the single shop.

So here we were staying at Fairfield Amritsar - and for the family, an excursion was incomplete without a shopping binge. So taking e-rickshaws, a popular transport in congested bylanes of Amritsar, we reached Katra Jaimal Singh Market. The streets are narrow, and roads difficult to navigate. The footpaths are no better largely encroached by hawkers and shop keepers. This is no different from say Chowri Bazaar of Delhi or Bara Bazaar of Kolkata.

While our original destination was driven by Google, we saw a rather spanky shop near it and headed to a clothes store by name of Gullu Exclusif. Obviously, while shopping each person in the ecosystem shall have his own interpretation – for some shop keepers, Gullu was costly and over priced – though quality was good. For Gullu, it was a fixed price non-negotiable shop with huge variety of stuff. At the Gullu, there was heavy rush for the mass market product – so we moved to slightly pricier area where we were given adequate attention and sitting space – exclusively. After buying number of salwar suits from the place, we headed for nearby stores selling ready-made garments and jackets for men. There too we had our fill.

Spending about 2-3 hours at the market selling clothes, salwar, dry fuits, jackets, shoes, sandals, jooti and what not. If you are comfortable shopping in over crowded markets with questionable prices with possibility of bargain and haggle, may be this is the place to be. For us, the saving grace was that in the shops we brought stuff from, there was no bargain.

This is a huge market and you get a wide variety of clothes, shoes, etc. However, we had only a few hours for shopping and felt like this was a bigger market to cover, look for unique designs etc which ended up being time consuming. If you are short of time, go to the shops very close to the gurudwara. They have a much better selection than this market, very unique designs and eye catching prints. Even the juttis are better there than at this market.
