Not exactly a Mahal, this was more of a Rest House for the British guests of Bundi. There is a combined ticket of Rs 75 for it along with Raniji ki Baori and one more. It is built near Jait Sagar lake and the view is absolutely mesmerising. There are only two rooms at the first floor. It was one of these rooms where Rudyard Kipling stayed in 1901 and probably that is why this place is also called Kipling Palace. The small room now has many memories of Rudyard Kipling. Our guide made us close our eyes as we climbed up to the first floor and made us stand at a place. Then he asked us to open our eyes, and WOW!! what vista it presented before our eyes. A lake with lotus leaves all around, surrounded by hills from all side. That was breathtaking. Do visit this palace to enjoy the nature’s bounty to Bundi.

A small summer palace for the local ruler and got some exposure because Rudyard Kipling spent a couple of days there writing Kim. In the upstairs gallery there are some black/white photographs of Kipling and underneath a small museum.
Only if you've run out of better things to do.

This small and neglected palace is a little out of town on Jait Sagar (lake). The lake was very polluted and the small palace surrounds were somewhat dirty and neglected. The palace is a series of low set buildings with ghats along the edge of the lake. Apparently Rudyard Kipling stayed here for a few days. The outside walls of the buildings were mouldy and uncared for. You can't go inside. The garden was overgrown and the fountain wasn't working. There is a government museum here as well. Like a lot of places in Bundi, if you want tourists to spend money in your town, you need to take more care of your historical buildings. The place was quiet and peaceful, and there was only one other couple there when we visited. Okay for a side trip if you have nothing better to do.

Unfortunately not looked after. This could be a major tourist at attraction if it was kept clean rather than loads of money being spent on some stupid flower beds in red sandstone. What are they thinking about!! The room where Kipling stayed is now a rundown office for the manager of the place, with florescent lighting slapped onto the walls. What a pitty!

200 rs to see the palace.. this is not a combo ticket. It's the foreigner price to see barely anything.
It makes no sense to pay.. only the outside is beautiful and to be honest better from a distance.

Set on the edge of a big tank/reservoir,this was Rao Raja Vishnu Singh's Summer Palace.A lot of it is closed, but it is attractive and worth seeing if you combine it with other sights on this road.

According to the guide books, this was where Kipling spent his summers and got inspiration for his writing.
The place is somewhat run down, but restoration is under way. Apparently a museum is coming, so that should add to the appeal of the place.
I personally found the setting beautiful and serene. There was a strong ambience of 19th century India and a great sense of tranquility. Obviously not everyone's cup of chaï !!

Looks pretty from far, but once you enter is a bit shabby and dirty. We paid 30rupees each at the entrance, the ticket man tried to charge us 200 each, however luckily our tutuk driver had told us that students go cheaper. It was fine for 30 rupees, but any more would have been a waste of money. We sat on the balcony of the house overlooking the lake, then continued round to the lake. We were told our ticket didn't cover entrance to the museum, but we chose not to pay for this as we assumed the museum would be of similar quality to the 'house'. To be honest, it's probably nicer to go to the otherside of the lake to simply look at the house

First of all, this isn't a palace. Its a small house type structure which is nice. the best part about Sukh Niwas Mahal is that its on the banks of Jait Sagar lake and from a certain distance it looks amazing.
But I can't say that from the inside. From inside, there are just 3 rooms, and a small roof. I read somewhere that on the roof of Sukh Niwas Mahal, the middle cenotaph is made up of white marble stone, but it isn't. So I was a bit disappointed about this.
There is also a small museum for which you need to pay a small amount to see.
Overall, a nice place to take some pictures or relax for an hour on the roof, especially in winters.
