Jada Tirtham is around 4.0 km from Ramanathaswamy Temple, on the way to Dhanushkodi & known among the devotees for the sacred pond. It is believed that when Rama was about to worship Shiva Lingam in Rameshwaram after killing Ravana, he washed his Jata (i.e. his matted hair) in Jada Tirtham. There is a temple next to the pond of Jada Tirtham which lies within Kaveri Tirtham and holds its own mythological importance. Jada Tirtham is believed to be the only place in India where Lord Kapardisvara is worshipped.

The temple is constructed near the trunk of a large Peepal tree and all the deities are supposed to have rested there while they had been in Vanvas.
Although the temple is small in construction but is a master piece of lattice work and the architecture is simply spectacular. It is famous for its beauty and uniqueness. This makes Jada Tirtham one of the most important places for a pilgrimage

Must see place in Rameswaram. Extremely peaceful place. Jada Tirtham is situated around 3.5 km from the main island on the Dhanushkodi road. After killing Ravana, Lord Rama visited this place and installed Sri Rama lingam in the temple. Before installing the lingam, Lord Rama washed his Jada (hair) with water in this temple to purify himself from the sins. ada Theertham temple is a small temple, located within the Kaveri Tirtham. The Kaveri Theertham is the only place in India where Lord Kapardishvara is worshipped. It is also believed that Jatayu, the king of birds, who fought with Ravana, fell down in this theertham after he was killed by the latter. Jada Tirtham is constructed near a big Peepal tree, which is believed to be the place where the deities used to rest. The entire temple is known for its lattice and art works, which enhance its beauty and charm. The pond is surrounded by sand dunes and its water is sweet like coconut water. Normally, auto people will not show this place. Ask them particularly to show this place.

Jada Thirtham in Danushkodi is considered a holy place to bathe before going into the temple. It is reasonably well maintained. When I went there was not anyone using the tank

This is the holy place - After the epic war with Ravan and after killings him Lord a Rama and Lakshman washed themselves . The tiny temple and the teertha make it a worshipful place . All the devotees who come here are overcome with emotions to visualize this . The access to go and touch the water is hard because it is fenced . Generally never crowded !

This is where Lord Ram has said to have washed his hair in the pond. Pond and temple are opposite to each other. Not too much crowded. Vendors sit near pond to feed fishes. Fishes are abundant in the pond. Quiet place to sit and watch fishes.
Temple has Ram, Lakshman, Sita, Hanuman and Jatayu idols. In the temple are I also saw many small idols of snakes.

You take a gravelly road for about 1 km from the rameswaram-dhanushkodi highway to reach the jada theertham also called jatamakuta Theertham or simply jata Theertham. Reachable by own vehice/regular cars.

Here is where Rama washed himself off his sins after killing ravana.

The place has 3 shrines along with the Theertham. One dedicated to lord ganesha and two dedicated to shiva (including ajnana vimochaneswarar ). The otherwise secluded temple comes alive during mahashivaratri and during mahamagam (the 12 yearly event that happens in kumbakonam )
