In reality ASALANTA is a little earthen village in a bamboo forest, hidden away in the valley with a surrounding mountain stream. Yet here you can get inspired, enjoy nature, Enjoy being totally immersed in nature with the unique experience of bamboo bathing. Bamboo bathing is scientifically proven to heal the mind, body and soul. Its multiple benefits include reducing stress and blood pressure, boosting the immune system, protecting against obesity, accelerating recovery from illness and freeing your creative mind. If you go there as a volunteer (helpx or woofing), forget it, those people like money too much and you will pay for absolutely everything even if you work 3h a day to build their house. Learn things? In a week, we have done 1h of natural building (4000baths per hour, it's expensive don't you think?) The diner is not include. During the 2 days off, you are generously allowed to take the muesli on the morning and that's it.
If you go there as a guest, the place is really nice so I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Concerning the community, it means to me that the people must share a lot together: it wasn't the case at all, except with the other volunteers. The owners were never with us except to explain what we had to do and after that, they were returned playing with their baby. The cooker didn't even eat with us and was a neighbour specially payed for it.
A really bad experience as a woofer. What a pity!
Always remember that money destroys everything....

We are very sad you had to leave us such a terrible review and did not communicate with us while you were here. Your experience would have been much more positive if only you would have spoken some English and not just French among the two of you. Your comment about our relationship with money makes us wonder. You are the only people who did not pay the full fee and yet stayed with us. You say you paid 4000 baht for only 1 hour of natural building and yet say you worked 3 hours a day to build our house?! To all other people considering to join our project, please don't let this review scare you off. Come see for yourself, the ASALANTA community and it's impact is growing every year ;)

During our stay on Lanta we had the opportunity to visit the Asa Lanta Earthen Village. We visited the organic tea house, participated in a (paid) jewelry making workshop and toured the clothing/jewelry shop and earthen homes on the property. We had an great time. The tea house also serves a Sunshine fruit juice cocktail which is delicious. Our children, 12, 8 and 7 years old, really enjoyed the workshop where they turned sea shells into beautiful art. Even the boys had fun! Anke is so friendly and patient with the kids and spent at least two hours with them (charging us only for 1.5 hours). A kids’ favorite was the tree house. If you are on Lanta, and ready for an activity other than sea or beach, I highly recommend you take a 100 Baht Tuk Tuk ride from Klong Nin beach to see Asa Lanta for an hour or two. The tea house is in the jungle shade, in an open house on stilts. Just the surroundings make it worthwhile, and chat with the Dutch and Thai owners of the place about their aspirations for a full alternative school are interesting. Locals know the place as ‘Baan Din’, which means earthen home. Apparently the place has been featured on television and everybody seems to have heard of it. I think they also offer angel card readings and alternative healing and meditation, but we didn’t try those.

We accidentally found Asalanta searching for bamboo workshops in Koh Lanta. Decided to drive to the place to check it out and boy that was a great decision. Built from scratch by a young couple with great passion for nature and pure living. Anke is a a great host and full of life and passion, while Aoi (her husband) is very knowledgeable with refreshing curiosity and thirst to teach. My Wife and I signed up for the bamboo workshop and spent the morning learning about various bamboo types from seed to harvest - it helps when you are actually learning while walking through their bamboo plantation! Then the afternoon was spent in creating anything we desired, to which we chose a bamboo lantern! By afternoon Aoi left us with great love and good understanding of bamboo and a desire to continue with crafting more elaborate designs! Thank you Anke and Aoi, we loved every minute of the day! Cannot recommend it enough. P.s. They do different workshops and if they're anything like the bamboo one then do not hesitate for a second!

If you’re looking for an antidote to salt, sand, bars and pools, ASA Lanta is the place to visit.

Anke and Aoi have made an art form of sustainable living, and they’re still on their journey.

I visited to attend the bamboo workshop ... and after a short 4 hours (with a fantastic lunch), I’m intrigued and I want to learn more.

ASA Lanta is located on the outskirts of a small village down the south of the island. It is located in a grove of forest and bamboo, and the bamboo and mud-brick structures are wonderfully comfortable, cool, and easy on the eye.

Anke and Aoi are wobderfully friendly and genuine hosts, and hopefully they’ll motivate you a little further along the path of sustainability.

I’ll go back again next time I visit Lanta, and I’d like to stay at least one night.

After reading the fantastic reviews, we knew that we had to visit Asalanta during our time on the island. We were very impressed with the place itself oand the clear hard work that has gone into it! We were looking forward to learning a little about the place and the families way of life there. Unfortunately, the Thai lady in the cafe did not speak English and sat on her phone instead of interacting with us. We had a short walk around ourselves and were impressed with what we saw, it just would have been nice to learn a little more about the project from the family themselves. As we had read that others had experienced this, we felt a little disappointed. Nonetheless, there's a lovely relaxed atmosphere there and we enjoyed some unique drinks and the energy balls! A must visit!

Thank you for your honest and positive review even though you were a bit disappointed. We are teaching the girls English so have hopes that will improve their interaction. Apologies for not meeting you, it is the low season period we can take time for maintenance and family. If there is an opportunity to visit again in the future please don't hesitate to contact us beforehand, we would love to meet anyone with interest in our project.

We visited ASALANTA and had a nice relaxing time. We didn't have time for the many workshops they offer. So, we chilled out with a freshly made berry juice and got a really zen feeling. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice to visit when you are around.

I am eco minded and read reviews about this place. It was amazing. The owners, Anke who is Dutch and Aoi who is Thai, are passionate about conservation and the environment. They have a hectare of land and have planted bamboo believing it to be the most versatile and hardy building material. They built their house, the community rooms and workshop and some adventure huts all from compacted earth and bamboo. There is an organic tea house. I had planned to eat breakfast there, I had freshly brewed coffee with nutty coconut milk and rough dark sugar. Delicious. I also had a bowl of yoghurt, crunchy muesli berries and fresh pineapple. Yum Anke also makes and sells beautiful jewellery and is knowledgeable about crystals. I spent ages enjoying the peacefulness and talking. I met 2&1/2 year old Asa who fluently speaks 3 languages and told me a story about elephants in perfect english. I walked around the property and looked at all the buildings. There are 3 different workshops but need to plan and book ahead for these. A cup of beautiful herb tea and a delicious big energy ball ended my visit. I’ll be going back.

We have found this amazing place in the local tourist guide and we have decided to try the sustainable bamboo workshop. It has been really a great experience for us. Aoi and Anke who live there and who run the workshops are such a nice and friendly people who are a great example of how to live a sustainable life. We had a great time, learned a lot about bamboo, we could design and create a nice thing out of bamboo, and had a delicious food with Aoi, Anke, little Asa and Nong Noi. I hope there is more places like this and we can truly recommend it to everyone who visits Koh Lanta.

Drinks were splendid, organic, and cooling. Energy balls tasted great and sustained us for hours. Location and ambiance were heavenly. Best hostess ever. Anke was a joy and little Asa was ADORABLE and all smiles. Excellent display of sustainable, nature friendly living and construction. Easy to get to yet off the beaten path. Swung in on a whim and it was well worth it. Best social time with strangers ive ever had. Full of art, info, and enjoyment. I'd give a 10 circle review if possible.
