Beautiful islands but ....

Booked the tour after hearing and reading favorable things about it. Can't tell you how disappointed we were. Cattle call / cluster f"!k. Nearly 2hour drive from Karon beach, nearly 2 hour boat ride...a floatilla of about a dozen boats with 35 people crammed on each boat. Embarrassing "breakfast", annoying guide that was shrill and screaching for most of the... More

How to rank a visit that shakes one's feelings about one's visit to a vulnerable environment? Let us make clear that this is a beautiful place. But all questions are for how long. Could not in my wildest dreams imagined that this was an island that afflicted so hard. Speedboats with hordes of tourists, not all show good manners when... More

We've visited Similan islands in November and the strange thing is that our impression is basically the same as most the travelers who made a comment about this trip. We went on the one day trip, but most time of the day we spent in the car from Phuket and in the speed boat. We should have had 2 parts... More

I did a trip out there from Phuket with my kids, 11 and 13, and it was a beautiful place - the white sand beach, the crystal clear blue water - but there were way too many tourists on the beach with us and snorkeling with us. The day was four hours of travel time out and four back from... More

We were staying at Khoa Lac and went on a day trip from here so only 15 mins traveling to the speed boats. The boats were over crowded 50 people squashed onto a boat we had been told 35 people where going! Speed boats travelled far to fast avoid going if you have back or neck problems, the driver never... Before I get to the point why you shouldn't do it, please let me say that the tour guides were very friendly and did a great job with the organization ;) However, the whole spectacle was pure mass tourism and we felt like sardines in a can! Besides the very long ride to the harbor (approx 1.5h) + bumpy and... More

Don't get me wrong, it's really nice going there on a 1 hour speedboat run, but the problem is that there's just too many boats. To make the most out of it, you're rushed into jumping in the water for a snorkel, or a quick swim then need to move to the next place. And it's the same thing for... More

We visited 4 islands on a day trip and counted more than 40 speed boats on one beach, each boat carrying about 50 tourists. Means 2000 tourists on one beach at the same time for 1 hour. Most tourists from China not being able to swim and standing on coral and leaving their garbage everywhere. They literally behave like 8... More

Apart from the crowds, these islands are so so beautiful. Crystal clear blue warm waters, amazing snorkelling with giant colourful fish and coral. Disappointed that we didn't snorkel with Turtles, but as the tour operators are not allowed to feed them to attract them any more as it's bad for them and not natural, so I guess that makes sense... Everything I had read about the natural beauty of the Similan Islands made me want to bring my family there. Considered one of the top ten dive spots in the world by National Geographic, they have been protected as a national park since 1982. Similan Islands means Nine Islands in Yawi, which is the native tongue of the area. In... More
