Great drive over the mountains

Since the road was made two lanes each way it is a safer road. Many places to stop en route with the temple at Kao Khot worth an hours stop. Great views.

The views and the attractions (waterfalls, markets, viewpoints) along the route have always been nice, but the road was quite narrow. But not anymore!! The road has just been widen all the way to Lom Sak. So, it's now safer and more convenient. If you don't have your own, just rent a car or a motorbike (not a scooter) and... More

This is a wonderful scenic trip and the reward at the end if you travel all the way through is Khon Kaen, one of Thailand's most lively and enjoyable cities.

Yes this is a very nice drive, however being here in May is not so great! The weather is of course not especially nice, we had rain. We also noted that a lot of cafes and restaurants along the route are closed/partially closed or close early. We had trouble finding dinner when we came out again after checking in to... More

Driving along Highway 12, we took a side trip to the top of an incredibly high mountain where we discovered an entire community of mountain resorts. The mountain must have been well over 2,000 meters high with many challenging switchback turns all the way up. But once on top, the views were fantastic! Fortunately we quickly located a place to... stunning winding mountainous drive! We loved driving this route and stopping at roadside eateries and restaurants along the way. Stopped to stay at the Sappraiwan grand resort which we left a separate review for.

On the way from Phitsanuloke to Lomsak, there are many roadside resorts with cozy small cafes to sip tea or drink coffee and also cascades or waterfalls on the WangThong river. I recommened Blue moutain resort that makes you feel like in the vineyard in Tuscany, it's cool all year round. Beyond this resort on the way to Lomsak, it's... More

The road is almost finished now I think. I passed there in february 2015 as well and they really made much progress. Lots of interesting things next to Highway number 12! Beautiful nature. I loved visiting the waterfalls! Read more about these waterfalls on Highway number 12 on www.thailandforfarang.com/other-places/phitsanulok/attractions/tags/waterfall

Big well-maintained road and the traffic far lighter than in BKK, this artery road ensured you a refreshingly pleasant "Driving in Thailand" experiences

The construction is only mildly disruptive. This highway is generally smooth going and has good variety, unlike the relentless twists and turns of those further North. The Nao Nom national park jungle is stunning as well as the mountains either side. The area around Khao Kho is slowly being developed/ruined by the cutesy attractions for Bangkok weekenders. It's a fad... More
