The cathedral was built in honor of Catherine the Great of Russia. The grounds have several beds of flowers & there are other monuments & buildings to see. The inside is very beautiful. The grave of Grigory Potemkin is also inside the cathedral. He was a consort of Catherine the Great & started the Black Sea Fleet in Kherson in 1778. This is worth a visit.

Located in the area where the Dnieper River empties into the Black Sea, Kherson has a history that stretches back to ancient Green times. However, it came into its glory when Catherine the Great ordered a city founded to house her imperial navy. Potemkin had the cathedral built in her honor. The insides of the Cathedral are beautiful and deserve a visit. There are many icons and religious paintings and also the throne built specifically for Catherine and the tomb of Potemkin. Other Kherson sites include the Monument to Shipbuilders, a Soviet monument to WW2, a Potemkin monument. Kherson is worth a day's visit.

Later on this building become as a church which is working till now. Visit St. Catherine's cathedral if you want to enter to peaceful atmosphere.

Beautiful cathedral. Visit St. Catherine's cathedral if you want to know more about the history of the city. I would recommend to come with a tour guide, who can tell you a lot of interesting things about this beautiful cathedral. One of the oldest buildings in the city and the oldest church in Kherson. It is well maintained. Absolutely love the figures of the saints.

If you want to have an idea about Kherson's history, I would recommend you visiting St. Catherine's Cathedral. It is the olderst church in the city. The most influential citizens are buried near the Cathedral. You can explore a piece of city's scared history by hiring a tourist guide.

When I've just entered enclosed area you're getting in atmosphere of great history. The Cathedral was built in period of governing of russian queen Ekaterina the second and the title inscription on the top says "To the sevior of human race Ekaterina dedicates to" (in manner of that times). There is placed the shrine of prince Potemkin.
