It seemed pretty quiet and empty when I stepped inside to take a look. I put a couple of bills into the donation box, then suddenly a door opens up, and I was greeted by the president of Bukhara's Jewish community himself. He gave me...More

Accessible and interesting Jewish religious site. A good place to meet a few of the few Jews remaining in Bukhara where thousands once lived.

It's a neat little Synagogue in Jewish quarter of old town Bukhara where they will see an ancient Torah, if they feel like showing you. Upon exit, they are not shy of asking you to donate.

The Synagogue is small and in the Sephardi style. There is a traditional Sephardi Torah in a round, metal case. The rabbi was very gracious in showing us around, telling us about the congregation and about the history of the Bukharin Jews.
