When you visit here, it feel totally free, peaceful , and you are on your own .
be careful with the wind , avoid sand come into the eyes, if you want to rent horse, just bargain. . if there's schedule of praying on the temple , the sound of bell while ringing make the situation more mysterious , it feel we are in another world.

Panorama view with black sand sea is really beautiful. Please bring face mask to be here because it have a lot of dust during the way but don't worry it is worthwhile to visit. Black sand sea with Batok mt. background and many jeep on black sand sea really good.

As part of our tour, our next destination was Mount Bromo. We boarded our jeep & descended from Mount Penanjakan & made our way through part of the Sand Sea.
The jeep will stop at the drop off point & you will need to continue the rest of the journey to Mount Bromo on foot. This is great as you will get to experience the Sand Sea. The walk isn't to far or too bad, take it slow & just make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. At worst, you can always hire a horse to take you across the terrain to the foot of the mountain. Since it was still the rainy season when we came (but fortunately it didn't rain), the sand was moist & it wasn't too windy. So, a mask/scarf/bandana to cover our mouth/nose wasn't necessary. However, we hear that it's good to keep either one of these items handy during the dry months from May to October. And, if you had come from Mount Penanjakan as we did, wearing a short sleeved T under your warm clothes will prove useful as you will surely need to peel off the layers after the walk & as it gets warmer.
I shant go into details about our visit to Mount Bromo (as I will cover that in a seperate review), but I will say that the vast expanse of black sand stretches as far as the eye can see - truly a "wow" sight from atop Mount Bromo. Plus, the temple rising out of the sand makes it all the more awesome!
After our visit to Mount Bromo, we made our way across the sand to our jeep. Then, we were driven through the Sand Sea to the "teletubbies" hills. It's truly quite amazing as it comes to a point where the sea of black sand ends & you are suddenly greeted by these lush green hills, reminiscent of the hills where the (TV characters) Teletubbies roam. Apparently, a friend of mine had visited in October, the tail end of the dry season, & the hills were dry & brown. So, lucky us!
What we did miss out on is the 'whispering sand' - apparently during the dry season the sand produces a sound when the wind blows, hence the name. This is probably why June to August are such popular months as you can probably enjoy both lush green Teletubbies hills AND whispering sand! Still, we were very happy with what we got!
On our way back we made a quick stop in the middle of this sea of sand to take in the view, snap some pix & go "wow" again. Also, the shadows from the clouds added quite a dramatic effect to both the green hills & the black sand.
We truly enjoyed our visit here!

Sand Sea or people call Sea of Sand (Pasir Berbisik) its the place in mount bromo area this place so very populer for prewedding or make it some advertising as the place so very big and good view.

This sand sea savanna looks like a highlander somewhere in Europe, the clouds are over the hills, this place is huge and just so amazing! I heard that you can set up a tent and stay there, I wish I did that! There are horses that can take you to bromo but you can walk for approximately 25 minutes! And also beware of the horses poo :p they are everywhere!

It was a first time unique experience for us walking through the Sand Sea to get to Mount Bromo as when it rained, we could feel sand it the raindrops coming down on us!

It is just like a desert of black sand. But it is a great background for photography if you know how to capture it well. Most tours will stop here after the visiting mount Bromo.

The sea of sand is below the Bromo crater and it's basically the Bromo Caldera itself where the volcano crater is located. When looked from above the Bromo crater or the sunrise point, it truly resembles a sea of sand or a lake, especially when there's a mist above it in the morning hours. In order to get to the crater itself, you will have to cross through the sea of sand. As the name suggests, it is very dusty. It is made of volcanic sand hence it is thin, dark and dusty unlike beach sand. It is a remarkable view.

You can walk down to the sea of sand and across to Bromo from behind Bromo Permai 1 hotel. It will take you 1 hour walking to reach Mount Bromo. Very beautiful landscape.

Best view is on top of Mount Bromo. You get to see the undulating Sea of Sand, frozen in its state until the next sand storm strikes. I have to say this compensates the Bromo crater which is rather boring... nothing but smoke coming out from the bottom.
Other than that, to walk across the caldera base from the jeep parking area to the stairs leading to the crater brim is quite an experience in itself!
