Although Kahil Gibran has a large worldwide following because of his 1923 book The Prophet, he was also a painter and philosopher. Although he lived the bulk of his life in the USA, his desire was to be buried in Lebanon. In 1931 this location - a former monastery - was purchased and Gibran interred the following year. As a museum it doesn't really work, despite significant interest and help from worldwide sources. The guidebook is uninformative, and the museum layout spread over four floors accessible only by stairs. As for the collection itself, the walls are covered with a somewhat disturbing and repetitive series of nudes, and only some lovely pencil sketches hint of significant artistic talent. Unlabelled bookcases filled with what was presumably his book collection are dotted throughout the building. A display case filled with dozens of translated copies of The Prophet gives some sense of his popularity. Those who appreciate Gibran will likely enjoy this museum, but we were not fans.

The Gibran Museum is in Bsharri, North Governorate, 120 kilometers from Beirut at an altitude of 2,193 meters above sea level. It is dedicated to the Lebanese writer, philosopher and artist Khalil Gibran. Founded in 1935, the Gibran Museum possesses 440 original paintings and drawings. It also includes his furniture and belongings from his studio where he lived in New York City. Rare are the paintings that Gibran dated, signed and titled. Entrance fees 200,000 LBP.

If you have read the book "The Prophet" by Gibran you would love this place. Otherwise it is so-so.
Most of the exhibits consist of his artwork and photography is not allowed.
His grave is in the basement.

Gibran’s is a writer and painter, he’s most known for the book “The Prophet”. In his museum are all his collection of paintings, writings, the tools he uses to write, paints etc. The entrance fee is 8,000 LBP ($2.60) and children under 10 are free. I didn’t really like the paintings, but love the view outside Gibran’s museum. If you’re visiting Lebanon and live books, it’s a must visit place!

It is a small museum, but nice and well designed. It contains sample of his work including paintings. It also contains samples of his own furniture. The route to reach to the museum is beautiful. There is a little cafe opposite to the entrance but the so called home made products sold are not consumable.

The Khalil Gibran Museum is located in a small town called: Bcharré in Northern Lebanon which is about 120 km. from Beirut. The drive from Beirut is a really scenic and picturesque journey as you travel from Beirut along the Mediterranean Coast and then as you get near the coastal town of Chekkais you turn East and travel to a very high elevation within the Cedar Mountains!
When entering the small town of Bcharré you have a Lebanese Tourist Office, we stopped there and the girl was very helpful. The museum is only a few meters up the mountain road from that office.
The Gibran Museum is located in an old 7th Century Monastery of Mar Sarkis or Saint Sergious. The location is stunning as the monastery is tucked under a large rock out cropping and behind the hermitage is a small grotto. There is a small yet suitable parking area near the main entrance and there is located a very nice outdoor coffee shop serving their local bread sandwiches.
The museum is very, very interesting as there are many connecting rooms all with vaulted ceilings exhibiting his personal belongings; including his furniture; his private library; his manuscripts and 440 original paintings. We were all astonished to discover that he was such an avid painter. The museum provides you with a booklet explaining the contents of each room. Finally, you can descent into the burial chamber to view his crypt and see additional personal furniture taken from his final residence in New York City.
In my humble opinion, the Gibran Museum is a must visit cultural and touristic site that should not be missed!

From the prophecy of gebran Khalil gebran, to his reality, here you can find everything you even dreamed of seeing about an amazing character, his life and death, paintings, the things he used when he was alive, letters with his own handwriting and even... His shadow. Yes it'll appear out of nowhere.

It's too beautiful to be described.
It's too haunting to be explained.
It's too personal to be shared.
It's too magical not to be on your bucket list.
Please come to Beirut and take the road trip to Gibran Museum.. It's truly breathtaking. I conceived an unborn child name there: Muhammad Yusuf Gibran ^_______^ And must not forget to find your Cedar tree.

Well, not the best museum i saw. I expected much more than rooms full of paintings. Museum should be full of facts, something i learn about the person. Maybe there is guide who will tell you all about it but i was on my own and was offered only booklet guide. Since there were two rooms from Gibran apparent New York appartment i would expect more informatio from his life such as when, why and where does he lived and wrote, paint. I personally was a bit disapointed by this museum.

I'm soon visiting Bcharre on monday so unfortunately I won't have the opportunity to visit the museum since it's closed that day , I was wondering if at least I could visit the gardens with the views on Bcharre and the store to buy a souvenir?
