This cave system is very large, and bats and starlings have made it their home. The locals collect bird nests for the Chinese market and if you are lucky, as we were, an orangutan will meet you at the entrance.

We went here on our last day with Sakau Rainforest Lodge, the cave experience was probably highlighted by memories of David Attenborough. Don't forget a good torch and don't look down if cockroaches are a problem. The bat exodus is fabulous and we were lucky...More

We were lucky enough to see a wild Orangutan outside the cave entrance and our guide provided binoculars so that we could see this really clearly. The cave is very smelly and filled with cockroaches running around, despite this, it is truly breathtaking viewing the...More

Beautiful cave with elevated walkway. Very interesting to learn about the birds nests that are harvested here. Hundreds of swiftlets, bats & cockroaches & lots of poop!! Best to do a tour with a guide to get all the information, we went with Amazing Borneo...More

We travelled to this cave from Sukau Rainforest resort (short boat ride followed by a van ride). Hard hats supplied for safety in the cave. Be prepared to be a little freaked out. It's not scary but the cave itself is home to numerous bats,...More

This is a large limestone cave open to the sky. It is inhabited by birds and their nests, bats and trillions of cockroaches. There is a boadwalk circling the cave and a handrail which you touch at your peril. This is where they get the bird...More

We really didn’t think how it can be strange!! I also afraid a little bit because of the insects. In fact this cave described as “the best managed edible birds” by World Wildlife Fund. The tour in the cave takes 15-20 minutes. It is enough:))...More

Being afraid of bats and centipedes, and not especially fond of cockroaches, I was apprehensive about our planned trip to the Gomantong Caves. I had seen the caves in David Attenborough's "Planet Earth" documentary, however, which piqued my interest. Our guide thoughtfully handed out two...More

Wear a hat...be amazed. Good shoes needed as it can be slippery. I always wondered what birds' nest looked like and came from. You need to be comfortable with cockroaches as you see them aplenty too. The cave is massive and spectacular.

The cave is absolutely beautiful but simply stinks to high heaven. The cave is loaded with insects, mainly cockroaches so if you're scared of bugs, don't go in! I really enjoyed it there, so interesting.
