Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This comment is strictly for the hiking trail and not for the Petroleum Museum at the Canada Hill. If you need a place for a short hike in Miri, or a place for daily hikes to maintain fitness level, then look no further. Access is free, and is located near the center of town (ridesharing costs about RM5). Previously only the back side of the hill is frequented by hikers. Now the front side (facing Miri City where the big signboard is located) attracts more hikers on daily basis. I had hiked the back side trail countless times, and I enjoy the front side even more. Better experience than Lambir National Park (except on Lambir's bigger and taller trees). Many stalls (at parking area) for you to hydrate after the hike. Give it a try!

Not terribly impressed. The museum was closed - for renovations but it didn't look as though it would be re-opening anytime soon.
I had a hire car so I drove up there. If I'd walked or paid for a taxi then I wouldn't be too happy.
Views were OK but nothing to shout about or even take photos of.
My visit didn't last long.
Bit of a waste of time to be honest.

Canada Hill or Grand Old Lady normally being visited for its view scanned thru Miri town. Locals normally go to canada hill for hiking. There are regular hikers go everyday. There is 1 - 9 trail. If you're newbie recommended trail will be from trail 3 - 6 or trail 6 - 4. Highly recommended for trekking. To do the whole trail needed more stamina. Dont underestimate the trail since its call "hike/ trekking". Its sweat you more than jongg in the park...

Its only a short drive/visit. One side you see palm oil plantation and the other side you can see endless shoreline. Theres a Grand Old Lady on top as a monument and a Petroleum Museum. Highly recommended for a stop.

Panoramic view over Miri out to South China Sea. Apart from that very little to do. Can access by short taxi ride or just walk up.

Canada Hill is a great place to take photos of Miri and drop into the visitor centre to understand the history of Miri. Well worth the taxi ride.

Canada Hill is accessible by a paved road which snakes upwards from one of the main roads in town. The first oil well in Malaysia was bored at its peak way back in 1910...known as the Grand Old Lady, she s preserved in all her glory in something of an exhibit-monument , complete with statues of oil rig workers pushing at a manual boring apparatus demonstrating how it used to be done back in the day.Impressive indeed...however, the Petroleum Museum adjacent to this structure is a complete disappointment. The building itself is well-designed with a large number of exhibits, but the maintenance seems to be non-existent. The first thing that hits you as you walk in is the heat....the air-conditioning was out of order when I visited...a few fans were placed here and there...I felt stifled, I can only imagine how visitors from temperate countries would feel! The exhibits are in a state of disrepair, with many of the interactive exhibits out of order! The state of the museum which showcases such a vital industry for the state and country is a crying shame. I wonder why the Sarawak Tourism Board or the big petroleum companies do not seem to be interested in proper maintenance of this museum...shocking.On another note, the views of the city and surroundings from the peak are fantastic...the grounds are fairly well-kept with a mini-park too. The hill and the Grand Old Lady at its peak is a sight indeed when approaching/leaving Miri by air.

This place is good if you want to see how big Miri is. You can have a great view of Miri town and the sea with the oil platforms. Good view during sunset.
