I booked Concepcion through my hostel Little Morgan’s. I really liked our tour guide, although I’m really bad with names and I don’t remember his. Its a very early morning, which makes sense because you want to beat the heat. He met us at the...More

It is magnificent to see this volcano from the water. Omatepe is only accessible by boat, which affords magnificent views of this geologic site. Concepcion is an active stratovolcano which forms the northwest part of the island. Since 1883, it has erupted 25 times!

The hike alone is beautiful and takes you from rainforest to small bushes to only volcano rocks. So much fun if you go with a group

Okay, I'm going to preface this review by saying there's a good chance you'll think I'm a "tool" (snobby, etc.) at some point as you read this. That said, here we go... We (male and female in our early thirties) hiked Volcan Concepcion in six...More

This is a great way to spend 2 days on a volcanic island in the middle of a lake. Relaxed pace filled with beautiful vistas. Really fun to rent a motorcycle or scooter and ride around the island.

I was a bit nervous doing this hike because you read many "horror stories" about this vulcano. Therefore, after discussing it thourughly, we decided to join the guided tour which was offered by our hostel. To be honest it IS a challenging hike, the last...More

This is not an easy hike. You won't see any fat people at the end of even the first part, which is to the Mirador. After that, it's 2-3 more hours of hard and dangerous climbing, so bring your wits and your grit. Views are...More

It depends! If you are planning on going right to the top, you need proper hiking shoes. The section above the look-out-point is steep, rocky and covered in little ball-like bits of lava that make it hard work. If you only... More
