If you have altitude issues or stomach upset, as many visitors may, this is a fairly grueling hike, at home you could do it in less than two hours, but in Peru it may take you four. Spray yourself with deet. Bring lots of water. Stop and take photos along the way. Don't expect to be able to do this... More

My family and I tried to do the hike but at the mountain, the ladder was demolished. The only thing left was a long piece of cable. We tried to climb the mountain but abandoned the effort because it was very dangerous. Please don't attempt without climbing gear.

We went up the mountain thinking it was going to be a straight forward hike. My friend even went up with Birkenstocks. At the first test you see a 100ft+ cliff ace that used to have a rope ladder with a steel cable guide. The ladder is gone and the steel cable is broken. Over all the hike was pretty... More

if you have extra time around Aguas Calientes, you should visit Putucusi Mountain, the view from the top is amazing, but the climb is very challenging, not for vertigo people!.

This track is not open to the public and is in huge disrepair. As stated by another user you will need equipment to do this track. Its rather sad as it looks like it would have been quiet lovely.

We climbed up the first 50m but the ladders are broken and a lot are missing and there are only a few cables which arent trustful. Few parts are without anything.. We think it is very dangerous without own ropes and without climbing experience even in the dry season right now, so we decided to go back down and let... More

My husband and I went to Peru for our 2 year anniversary. After months of research I decided that I wanted to try Putucusi. Now, I am not very athletic, but I was determined to get to the top! The hike starts with finding the entrance to the trail, which is down the railroad track and off to the right.... More

We climbed up this in mid-March 2016. The rope and ladder are gone, so you have to free climb the first 70-100 feet or so. About 70 feet up there is a pretty tough 5.7/5.8 move that you really shouldn't try unless you are comfortable with the consequence of a miss (which is likely death). Be careful folks.

We tried to reach the top of Putucusi in February 2016 by ourselves. The rope at the bottom is now removed so going the traditional route with ladders is almost impossible now. Especially in rainy season when there is water and moss on the rock face. We also tried to go up an alternative route through the forest but turned... More
