About
Relax in the warm waters of these natural pools, surrounded by lush vegetation at the base of the Machu Picchu mountain. These pools, which give the town of Aguas Calientes its name, were formed due to the volcanic activity of the region. Soak in the comfortable waters, with temperatures that range from 100°F to 114°F. But don't worry about the water's slight yellow tinge—it's caused by sulfur, iron and other minerals that are naturally present. Many tours include a visit to Aguas Calientes as part of the Machu Picchu experience, and there are changing rooms, showers and lockers available. – Tripadvisor

I agree with all the others who talk about the incredibly long hike, not to mention it being hill, to get to the springs. But, in spite of all of the negative reviews, we went to make our own decision. Unfortunately those reviews were correct. This is a spot just for locals. The pools were crammed from end-to-end with locals Including babies who were most definitely not potty trained and not wearing any type of swim diaper so you know what that means. We sat and watched for a few minutes to see if it might clear out so we could go get a closer look but as we were sitting just outside of the bar, more people streamed in and as we finally decided to leave and make the trip back down, there were lines of more locals coming in. Where were they all going to go? The pools were already packed. I understand why the locals pack up this place, it's literally the only game in town, especially for families But if the place wants to benefit from tourist dollars (especially drinking dollars), then some changes need to be made. They need to limit the amount of people that can come in or maybe even have certain times (or even pools) set aside for tourists/visitors. I wish I were able to actually have experienced the pools to give a more complete review, but unfortunately it wasn't possible.

Is a small town, where basically only one good restaurant (Indio Feliz) is, the thermal waters are a joke and the place can be seen in 1 hour if not less....only cheap handcrafts are sold there and not good hotels either to sleep, so if you can avoid staying there is better. Cusco has a lot to offer vs Aguas Calientes

This is a must stop before going to Machu Picchu as you need to spend the night before heading to the park the next day. The town is surrounded by the most gigantic mountains and is built on the mountains so there are stairs everywhere. The only mode of transportation is by foot. Is built just beside the more choppy river I have ever seen. Is a very small town, flooded by tourists from everywhere

Despite the poor reviews it was always on our radar to visit here.
Located a 15 minute walk uphill from the town centre you can pick up a towel for a very small fee from one of several gift shops that line the street before the entrance. From the ticket booth it is another 5 minute walk up to the main entrance where you walk through a small bar area and are given a free locker.
Before entering the water you must shower and it is advisable to do this when you are ready to leave.
There are various pools at various temperatures mostly filled with locals.
Bar menu's are located pool side just wave your hand and the waiting staff will sort your beverages for you. Payment for your drinks is taken as you exit the bar.
Word of warning I brought a pale blue pair of swimming shorts and the water discoloured them to the point that after several washes they still have not come up clean.
Great experience, not to be missed.

Yuck. There should be a capacity. When we went each pool was crowded, the water brown you couldn’t see the bottom (except the cold tub that was empty and clear). Band-aids floating… There are no seats in the tubs so you stand around and they could be hotter.

It was peaceful and relaxing. If you want to avoid crowds, just wake up early in the morning like 6 AM and go then, that’s what I did & it applies to everything (the early bird gets the worm) My experience was beautiful. Everyone that worked there was very kind to me, the water was very clear, there was a pretty flower aroma, and the walk up to the hot springs was gorgeous I loved the sculptures and nature. 🌅

DISGUSTING!
It was the most DISGUSTING thermal facility I have ever been.
Toilettes are gross, floors are gross and I saw people cleaning their nails in the pool next to me while I was trying to avoid the ball of hair.
Stay away if you don’t wanna get any fungi.
I stayed only 5 mins. I had never been disgusted so much in my life.
Did I tell you a guy snorted on the floor when he was walking out?

Nice, relaxing hot springs. They had a number of different pools with different temperatures. You could get bar service at the pool. Everyone was friendly. After doing a two day hike and spending another day at Machu Picchu, this was a great way to relax and recover. They have changing rooms, bathrooms, showers (outside) and a free locker service. Some reviews complained about a smell.. I did notice a very slight sulfur smell in one of the pools, and that's probably because I was looking for it. It is nothing that was harsh or disturbing for me. I would definitely go back.

We went to check it out so didn’t have a soak. But would have had a soak if the walk up the hill wasn’t so tiring (we just hiked Wuayna Picchu). We did hang out at the Rasta bar at the top and had such a fun time with great jungle views! Ask about the snake jug!

After a morning hiking at Machu Picchu it was an awesome way to spend the afternoon. The pools are up to 97 Fahrenheit and sit next to a beautiful bubbling creek (you can hear it but unfortunately can not see it from the pools). Surrounded by beautiful mountains it’s really a great way to relax! And they bring cocktails! Upstairs bar is super cool and worth the visit just for that! Try the mojito…

Any idea of closing time in June? Thank you!
Written 13 January 2020
Their website says they are open 5am to 8pm every day.
We went about 6pm in October, very relaxing after a long day on our feet.
Can rent towels and even bathers at a multitude of stalls on the walk to the springs.
