I cannot speak highly enough of this trekking outfit. We did the 12-day Full Huayhuash Circuit, and we also stayed at the Quechuandes Hotel in Huaraz before the trek, where the team also help organized some day hikes to get acclimatized.
David was very helpful and responsive in getting the trek set up, connecting us with another couple so that we could meet the minimum trekker requirement. Our guide Erik was fantastic, our cook Elmer feed us delicious meals every day, and our muleteer Antonio made sure our camp was perfectly set up when we arrived to each site.
As a bonus, I caught a nasty stomach bug the first two days, and the team took great care of me, allowing me to use the emergency horse a bit as I recovered, and preparing special meals and herbal teas to help me recover. They were genuinely happy and relieved to see me recover and continue the trek.
You will be in excellent hands with the Quechandes team. Highly recommended! If you'd like to see more insight into our trip, you can find us on YouTube @MEOWnderlust.

We did a 9 day trek Aug 1 - 9 in the Cordillera Huayhuash. I am so happy we booked with Quechuandes! David was very friendly, responsive and helpful even while going through some health issues and other stressors. The elevation was no joke but it was honestly the most beautiful backpacking I've ever done.
If you go you have to ask for Erik as your guide! He was very professional and so knowledgeable about the area, the local history, and the local flora and fauna. It was such a treat to get to walk with him each day. He always seemed aware of our capabilities that day, making sure to get to camp at a reasonable hour but walking at the rate he knew we could accomplish that day, keeping us safe. He’s clearly very experienced and that comes through. I love that he went to an intensive formal guide school - it was very comforting having someone with such expertise. His English is great which was very comforting when having to communicate any discomfort from altitude, etc. and was also just fun to be able to converse with him. Quechuandes is lucky to have him as a guide.
Our arriero, Antonio really cares about and values his donkeys and horses, gently caring for them and directing them with his voice rather than painful stimuli which I can't say for all the arrieros we saw. He is an incredibly hard worker. He also always had a smile on his face and was fun to have around.
Our chef, Elmer, was amazing. I’m going to miss his amazing meals so much! He accommodated our vegetarian dietary requests very well. There was incredible variety in the meals which we appreciated. His attention to the presentation of the food also sets him apart as a true chef - the food was as beautiful to look at as it was delicious.
I want to emphasize how amazing this team of guys was. They worked together well, everyone pulling their weight and clearly doing their best to make sure we had an amazing and unforgettable trip, which we did. I feel so lucky to have had them with us the past 9 days. The trip wouldn’t have been the same without them.

Quechuandes is a superb travel and adventure company in Perú!
I was fortunate to arrange my Huayhuash trek (full 11 day circuit) with David Lazo --Quechuandes' owner-- and my experience was an excellent one.
Everything was professional and led to a safe and incredible customer experience. Being my first time in Perú and having the Huayhuash trek as the highlight of my trip I was glad to be informed, hosted and guided by such a local team of wonderful people who love their country and are 100% environmentally conscious and responsible.
I stayed at Quechuandes in Huaraz and lodging was clean, convenient and very comfortable. Breakfasts were delicious.
David, his family and team at Quechuandes made us feel safe and welcomed in Perú. We received advise all along on proper acclimatization, recommended hikes, equipment, things to do in Huaraz, including restaurants that proved to be delicious, good value and clean.
Once in our trek, the guides, cooks and muleteers (all staff supervised by Quechuandes) were so nice, experienced and professional that made our expedition a safe and fantastic one, hitting all the highlights of this beautiful circuit. I was impressed with the level of detail and organization needed to pull an 11-day, completely self supported expedition in the middle of such a remote place to include all food, logistics and equipment.
I traveled with my 13 year old son and met an international group of people, all of whom were delighted with the service we received. Food was excellent, varied, nutritious and clean, nobody got sick, a key concern to foreign travelers in a remote location whereas staying healthy is paramount to enjoyment.
Also, the equipment used, including the tents we slept in were of the highest quality; there was a day that rained all afternoon and thru the night and we stayed dried.
I wish David, his family and team much success by maintaining the standard of excellence and customer attention we received.
Muchas gracias!

My wife and I went on the four day Santa Cruz trek through Quechandes. It’s always nervous paying for an out-of-country adventure through Western Union. Through quick responses, detailed trip documents, and testimonials I was able to have enough confidence in David Lazo, the owner, to make the payments and the trek happen! And it was worth it!
We were staying at Llanganuco Lodge so the drive time was quicker than if we were in Huaraz. The transportation in a 4x4 trek was comfortable and our trekking crew was professional. Ricardo had been a guide for 30+ years and had done the trek hundreds of times. The cook, Elmer, prepared meals better than I couldn’t have in a fully stocked kitchen. And our muleteer, Richard, had everything set up and ready to go like clockwork.
In addition to the magical experience of the mountains, the crew was simply wonderful. Thank you to David for making this a reality for us!

I have just returned from a wonderful stay in the Quechuandes B&B in Huaraz and highly recommend the experience. David was a friendly, thoughtful and knowledgeable host from the very beginning, when I started planning my trip, and throughout my whole stay. The B&B is very comfortable, clean and welcoming and the breakfasts on the terrace (with a great view of the mountains) were delicious.
As a beginner, I also really appreciated David's valuable help and input with planning out the best programme of activities to gently acclimatise, which guaranteed a smooth and enjoyable vacation. I greatly enjoyed every one of the day tours that Quechandes helped me to book, with excellent guides and beautiful locations. If you dream of getting to know the Cordillera Blanca, I definitely recommend booking your stay and trips with David! Look forward to coming back in the future.

I absolutely recommend Quechua Andes. I told David what I wanted out of Huaraz, and he customized a package of the best day hikes for me. The hikes were perfect, and actually exceeded my expectations! All the drivers, cars, and guides for my hikes were the highest quality. If you want top notch, punctual, professional service in Huaraz, you want Quechua Andes.

Quechuandes is the ideal organization to work with for any and all your local trekking needs in Huaraz. David's attention to detail as the manager and his staff (guides, cooks, porters, etc.) are all top of the line. Our group undertook the 11 day Cordillera Huayhuash with Quachuandes in August 2022 and had the best possible experience. They took our preparation seriously and put us in the best position to be successful (e.g. three acclimatization hikes, wellness checkins throughout the trek itself). The food was especially good and the staff was always willing to accommodate requests (changes in the day's itinerary for example). We were lucky and the staff even treated us to a traditional Pachamanca meal the last night, an experience I won't soon to forget. The trek itself, although incredibly difficult, is completely worth the effort: I have never seen alpine conditions has majestic as these. Do yourself two favors: choose to do the Huayhuash and choose to do it with Quechuandes, you will not regret either!

We stay at Quechuandes' B&B for our acclimatization hikes prior to our 10 day Cordillera Huayhuash trek. Marie and David provided us with nutritional breakfast and teas that made it possible for us to complete our hikes.
They organized our 10 day trip in Huayhuash and provided knowledgeable staff to assist us during our trek. I will highly recommend them for any organized hiking around Huaraz.

-Marie Timmerman was very responsive to all our inquiries in both selecting the trip and our predeparture arrangements
-Upon arrival in Lima, we were unable to travel to Huaraz due to a national strike and lockdown. Not only were they flexible in rescheduling our trip, but Marie played an active role in communicating with both Movil bus and our Lima hotel updating us when the buses would run again.
-We opted to stay at Marie and David’s bed and breakfast before and after the trip which I would also recommend everyone doing.
-David and Marie felt like instant friends and were great conversationalists.
-The accommodations were beautiful, and the breakfasts were delicious. The best part was sitting on the terrace in the morning looking at the surrounding mountains.
-Most importantly, was the chance to informally get advice for trip preparation both at breakfast and throughout the day.
-Marie stressed the importance of altitude acclimatation, stressing the do and don’ts, especially constant hydration, and medications to avoid. Though I was aware of altitude sickness, I wasn’t aware that you naturally dehydrate at high altitudes.
-David and Marie recommended daily hikes that optimized our acclimatization. They hailed taxis and gave them directions to trailheads and made arrangements for drivers at more remote locations.
-They reviewed our gear and made suggestions for improvements which gave us the opportunity to ensure we had the appropriate gear for the terrain.
-I am used to 12-day backpacking where I am solely responsible for everything. I thought this trip would be luxurious where everything is done for you. However once on the trip, I realized the services they provide are essential to trekking in the Huayhuash., Spending most of the time between 14,000 and 17,000 ft. (3800 to 5200 meters) is completely a new experience; I couldn’t imagine attempting this trek without this support.
-The three guides for the trips worked well as a team. They were friendly, very professional, and efficient. Food was delicious, especially the soups which were restorative. I was never concerned about our safety or basic comfort, allowing me to focus on the physical adaptation and endurance required for the journey.

Cordialement,
Marie Timmermans

Hi,
Me and 2 of my friends are interested in doing the Santa Cruz Trek. We plan to head to Huaraz Tuesday. Is the trek possible, due to weather conditions? How much per person would that cost?

Hello Tarek,
Thank you for expressing interest in our company.
The Santa Cruz trek is doable year-round, however, given that it is the rainy season, you may of course get a lot of rain, but to be honest so far it has been raining a lot less than usual.
You can see the price of the trek and detail of inclusions on our website. At the moment, we do not have any planned group departures for the Santa Cruz trek, most people in this season book at the very last minute.
Kind regards,
Marie Timmermans

Bonjour!
