Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I didn't find much info about doing the summit without a guide, so I wanted to share my experience.
It's totally doable, not a very hard hike. The trail is on maps.me, I'd recommend doing it east to west (it's a lot less altitude to climb and the path is more beautiful on the east). It's not very well marked all the way, sometimes it almost disappears completely, but if you continue to walk in the general direction of the path you can find it again pretty easily.
I think the biggest challenge is getting a taxi to the start of the hike. I hitched a ride with a guide going there from my hotel at 5am, but they were reluctant to take me in as I didn't book the full tour. I paid 50 Soles, which is probably twice the price you can get by bargaining with a random taxi in town.
Took me 2.5h to get to the top.
From the summit, you can see the path to go back down to the road to the north-west, it follows a dried river. You can either sandboard to it or run down the dune. In my opinion, it's not worth it to take a sandboard, you'll have to carry it 3/4 of the way, and running downhill is just as fun.
Took me 1h to go down.
The path ends at a peaje on the road, where it's pretty easy to get a small colectivo back to the plaza de armas of Nazca for 3 Soles/person. Wave at the small cars with reflective stickers.
I was back at my hotel at 10:30.
There is very little shadow on the path, and it gets hot pretty fast as soon as the sun rises, so make sure you get a hat and plenty of water (I drank 1.5L)

I highly recommend that you do this trek. It is not easy but certainly worth it. It takes about 4 hours to get to the top of the dune, and you will have to start walking very early. But like this, you will see the landscape changing as the sun rises. It is very pretty. To go down is quite easy since you will do it sand boarding (you will have to carry your sandboard to the top, and for that, you should make sure you have a backpack so you can stick it at the back of your backpack (not comfortable but better than holding it in your hands while walking in sand for hours). The sandboarding can be done by just seating on the board. Standing is only an option and the boards we had were not good enough to really allow us to stand. But we had a blast nonetheless!

Juan-Carlos and Jules-Cesar taked the care to bring the water, the foods for dinner and also a wine bottle! It was one ove my favorite part of our 35 days trip!

Juan Carlos es una guía muy excelente. Él fue muy amable, informativo, y generoso. Trajo mangos para nosotros, buscó un escorpión, y nos enseñó mucho. Nos dio el mejor viaje posible. Él habla un poco de ingles también. Muchas gracias Juan Carlos!!
Juan Carlos is the best guide out there. He is very friendly, informative, and generous. He brought mangos for us, found a scorpion in the sand to show us, and taught us a lot about the dunes and Nazca. He gave us the best trip possible. He speaks a little English too. Thank you so much Juan Carlos!! This was an amazing trip!

Went with Edunas tours. Had a blast riding around in a dune buggy and surfing the dunes. It is beautiful and majestic view. My shoes were filled with sand.

We would like to do the walk on our own in the afternoon and pitch our tent at the top..we will have our own hired car and would like to know if there is a safe parking place where the path starts, to leave it all night with all our stuff in it
Thanks
