This place is like heaven on earth. The area is very quiet and offers a dream landscape. If you want to be in the middle of nature and recharge positively, here is the perfect place to relax and forget about the noise in the city. A special accommodation is on the shore of the Lake at the Roman Gardens.

Located a few km away from the city of Bicaz .. the "Izvorul Muntelui or Bicaz" lake is the largest man made lake in Romania.
The Bistrita river was dammed - the building took a decade between 1950 and 1960 - giving birth to this beautiful lake.
The dam 127 m high , 435 m long , the lake behind the dam is 44 km long and it can hold 1,25 billion cubic meters of water.
During the summer you can have boat trips , or rent kayaks to enjoy your time on the water , angling can be also a nice option to spend time on the water - or simply driving on the shores of the lake and stopping here and there for some pics - can be also very interesting.
Overall a great place with plenty of things to explore - or just enjoy nature - I recommend put it on top of your list of places to visit when you are in this area of Romania , it is worth it.

It is a great place to visit.The lake is surrounded by a wonderful view,a green view that your eyes will like.The green grass,the mountains in this area are something that it worth to be seen.The water from the lake has like 22 or 23 degrees in the summer time and it is a nice place to swim.I hope my review to be useful for the tourists.

We actually didn't visit the lake itself, just the dam which was very impressive.Still, the history behind this dam is the important thing

Amazing view especially during the sunrise and the sunset. The dam is very big and you can see Ceahlau's peaks. You can rent a boat or a hydro-bike. There are several place where you can eat or you can sleep. The specialty here is the trout.

There are two spectacular dams in Romania: one holding the Vidraru Lake and the other one holding Lake Izvorul Muntelui. Bicaz dam is the biggest dam in Romania (and although not so poppular like Vidradu dam) is the most spectacular. If you arrive by chance in the NE of Romania you should definetly visit it (i recommend it by car).

Claudia A: "To get to the best place for taking beautiful photos, just drive to Bicaz dam, and continue your road after crossing the damn for about 30 minutes. On the drivers side, there will be an opening and a spot to park the car and enjoy the view"... of the lake and Ceahlau Mountains.

Located in the Bicaz gorges near the bicaz dam, if you can handle the zigzag road leading up to the lake, this is a beautiful lake. Take the boat if you can, or just stop by the side of the road and grab some food while you admire the beautiful sorroundings
