We were part of the tour group '360 Monte' & glad we weren't driving & could take in the breathtaking scenery. The Petar Petrovic Njegos Mausoleum is a must see for the beauty & audacity of building such a huge construction so high up.
Opposite Mt Jezero where Njegos is housed is Mt Lovcen.
The less trafficed road is winding also & the hike to the top does duly reward your efforts with a stupendous panorama probably superior to Njegos.
Regardless the day spent touring this part of Montenegro was a standout highlight of our 5 weeks mainly in Croatia.
If this is going to be on your agenda, then flying into Podgorica could be a better option, because the coach trip from Dubrovnik ( & ultimately returning a week later) was the absolute pits... like seriously atrocious.

First you have to Pay 2€ per person to enter the Park. Then if you like to see the monument you have to pay again 5€ and really there is nothing spécial to see. There is nothing interesting to see neither some information about that place. You spend 5€ to see a block With 3 statues… the only thing Nice is the view.

The nature is stunning, and the air is fresh during the whole year. One can find snow at the beginning of May! For bird and vegetation enthusiasts there is a lot to see and hear. You can go by foot, bike or car. Entry ticket to the park is 2 euros per person. Smoking and drones are prohibited. These rules are unfortunately not enforced and we witnessed both (the drone noise was rather annoying). There were no brochures nor other type of information available at the park entrance, nor were they posted. The view at the mountain top leaves you breathless, but unless you can orient yourself with the help of a guide or Google Maps there is no way to know what you're looking at. There is absolutely no information provided about the history and richness of the park. So everything that is nature made is amazing, but what could be man made to make the experience fuller is missing. It left me with a feeling that whoever runs the park doesn't care much about presenting it to tourists in the best possible way.

Lovcen was amazing experience. We went by car from Cetinje to Lovcen than to Kotor. The road from Cetinje to Lovcen is excellent, wide and surrounded with beautiful nature. The Lovcen Mausoleum is story for itself. That's the place where Earth touch the sky, the Mausoleum is fascinating on the place where it is builded and speak about the respect and grandiosity of the Njegosh. The view is breathtaking. After the visit of the Mausoleum you can refresh at the restaurant below, which also has wonderfull terace. The trip from Lovcen to Kotor was also wonderful. I read a lot of comments for that road but our experience was very good, the road was better than expected. Yes, it is strech and there are a lot of serpentines, but it is in good condition. Our reccomendation is to drive slow and carefully. The views are breathtaking.

Great views! Prices - 2 € for entrance to the park and 5 € (or less) for museum uphill and it is totally worthy. Roads are very steep, curvy and a bit dangerous. You have to be a good driver. There is a zip line on the way from/to Kotor for 10 €.

Visited here in February and the mountains were covered in Snow. It made our trip even more amazing with breathtaking views of snow covered valleys. But we missed Njegošev Mausoleum, as the stairs were closed due to snow. There is an entry fees of 2 € per person and a wonderful restaurant at the top.

You most easily reach the park from Kotor. For those of you with motorbikes or cars - you know the drill: Security first and better step back/be defensive when it comes to those smaller mountain roads. We make our way up from Kotor, silently winding roads through the forest and often opening views for us down to the bay or the open sea. Take the right road to the park which is surprisingly well entertained and what I would call very wide.
Take your time further going up. For many people reaching the summit is the „ultimate“ achievement. Not so much here. The views from different standpoints are spectacular, still give a chance to the hidden gems like the common plants you will see or the animals that are around.
And as usual: take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints.

It was fantastic. We came with Great Montenegro Tour from Kotor. Drove up the serpentine road on the black mountain. It was great fun and a lot to see.
Two of the highlights: Njegošev Mausoleum ( be prepare to climb 460 steps in a massive tunnel). And, the exciting top: an opened platform of 360 degrees. We were there on October, a relatively quiet season. Everyone can take time to chill and listen to stories while take in the views stretching as far as Lake Skadar and Albania to the east and, to Croatia to the west. An experience you won't forget!

Visited the Old Capital of Cetinje. Walked around the centre of town - rather like a Swiss Village feel at 700 metres altitude. had a guide through the Royal Palace, which was their home for much of the 1900's till WWII when they were evacuated to Switzerland. Visited the little chapel holding the Royal tombs, and on to the big Monastery with a lovely painted chapel inside, at no charge.
Well worth the journey from the coast on a road with dozens of bends!

Great drive up to get away from the masses. Still quite some people but seem to be mostly local. Easy walk up to the tomb - indoors stairs even providing shade. Parking can be a bit problematic as everywhere in Montenegro really, so parking is next to the steep road.

Moguci nacini prevoza od Lovcena do Kotora?
Pozdrav,
Hvala veliko :)

Where is the “visitor center” from where you can do hikes? I would be interested in an option to do more hiking and less car-driving
Written 29 August 2019
If you are really willing on hiking, and staying in Kotor, the best is simply to not take a car at all and hike from Kotor, it is surely worth it, although it takes a good 8 hours hike;
If that much is not possible/your wish, then you cannot miss the visitor center, as it is basically where you need to pay the rangers to enter the park and there is only one road.
You can park before, and the hike starts on the right of the rangers cabin, it simply is the end of the full hike from Kotor.

Hello, how looks now prices for taxi from Cetinje? How long usually taxi will wait for me? And how much i need time to climb up from taxi stop?
Written 30 July 2019
Hi,
You can find a taxi and they will wait for you . Aprox 20 EU including waiting time.
You have 461 steps, how long it will take depends on your fitness. but my advice is make sure you don't miss out on this experience for 5 euros more.
Best,

Hi, is there any possibility to go into the national park without car? Public trasport, taxi anything?
Thanks!

Hi all, I’m visiting Kotor next week for 3 days and I’d really like to spend a day at Lovcen National Park, and in particular visit Njegoš mausoleum. I don’t drive - does anyone have any advice on how to get there by public transport?
Written 29 April 2019
It's a bit out of the way not really sure it would be easy to get to by public transit, my understanding is there is bus to Cetinje, then you'd have to take a taxi there. Might be easier to go with an organized tour from Kotor... Lovcen and the Njegos mausoleum are really quite spectacular... worth the climb for the view.

How much does it cost to enter the National park (not the Mauseleom) ? Some websites say 2 euro per person, others say 3 euro per person. Also are children aged 13, 16 years charged for entrance ? Thank you.

2€ per person in the car to go to the heart of the park, but you can easily park at the gate and walk.

Buongiorno,

Written 15 July 2017

Hi, travelling to Becici during July period for 4 weeks and wondering what's the best way to visit the mountain. We want to go to the top and also see the sights across the bay of between Kotor and the top of the mountain.
We're both young and fit and don't mind a walk but don't want to spend too much money!
Any replies or feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

Haha, my girlfriend and I are also young but we went with the car till the very entrance of Lovćen and I think you should do the same...its reeaaally a long journey if you decide to go on foot
Maybe, just maybe, you can make an arrangement with the taxi driver (I assume you guys are not coming with your car?), so he can take you to the "first entrance" of Lovćen and from that point there is like 45-minutes walk to the top of the mountain...
