Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I found it scary to see how the locked this church with barbwire. Still, later on, from a distance, I saw youngsters going in.

The Church of Holy Saviour has a commanding position over the city of Prizren on a hillside just below the Kalaja Fortress. The original small chapel with beautiful but heavily damaged frescoes was originally built in the 14th century. It resides within a more modern structure which was constructed in the mid-to-late 19th century. Like many other churches and buildings it was set on fire and heavily damaged in March 2004. It is supposedly going to be restored but there is no evidence of work being done. There is a security guard at the locked gate who will give you access but there is sensitivity over who can come onto the property given what happened in 2004. There is supposedly a 2 euro entrance fee but we were not asked to pay for it. Instead, we left a contribution in one of the baskets in the chapel. Do visit this beautiful chapel while hiking up to the fortress.

A very beautiful church from the 14th century, still keeping its nice aspects by this day and stays at a very dominant place over Prizren, on the way to the fortress. Worth to see, but not reconstructed fully yet.

While OK it is not spectacular compared to other churches throughout Europe but its presence in such a heavy Muslim population is a testament to the tolerance of the people.

It's a nice church from our side, but the entrance gate was locked and can't access the inside, located on the way to the fortress

Worth reading up on or having a guide explain it to you, as the story is quite a humbling one. Landmark in more ways than one.

I used it as my landmark for my solo hike down from the Fortress. The hike down was faster and roads are better than those of my hiking up.
Hiking up the Fortress, I used another route that was longer and the most parts of the roads were rough.
Access to this church is not allowed as it was locked up during my visit. I wondered what had happened to this church, destruction caused by the war?

Located on the walkway from the town to the fortress so easy to find. Regrettably whilst the walls and dome give the appearance of a complete church, the roof and anything previously inside have been relatively recently destroyed. It is a nice church and hopefully will be again one day. After seeing churches like the Patriarch of Pec or at Decani Monastery, which are absolutely beautiful, it was a little sad seeing the state of this one.

This church is in a beautiful location just below the fortress. The climb is very steep and often the gate is locked to prevent further damage to this church that was so ruined in the civil violence of 2004. It is a sad testimony to the tragic history of this country. Definitely worth a visit.
