Thuparamaya was built by King Devanampiyatissa (250BC - 210BC) and it is the first stupa built after introduction of Buddhism. The collarbone of Lord Buddha is enshrined there. A must visit place for all the Buddhists.

This seemed to be the most religious stupa in the complex with the amount of the people around when I visited and also the various offerings that were being performed here.

If you're going to do the Sacred city tour - wear socks. We didn't and our feet got so hot - by the time we got to this stupa we couldn't be bothered getting out of the tuk tuk
