My wife, little son and I visited the Dambulla Caves in September. The hike to the cave is rather easy. After reaching the top, the view across Dambulla and the surrounding area (e.g. the Golden Temple) is brilliant and it's not too crowded so that...More

Beware that there are a number of steps up to the cave temple, however, most people will manage this. There are a series of caves built into the rock with Buddha statues inside each. It is a peaceful temple and well worth the visit. There...More

Just a 20 min climb to the entrance gate. But don’t get rude and upset if you arrive at the gate without a ticket like I witnessed a fellow Australian do. I apologised to the gate attendant for his rudeness and advised that most Australians...More

5 caverns filled with images some of which are very beautiful, cavern number 2 is probably the most impressive. Check out the art work on the ceilings too. There's not much lighting inside but if you don't use the flash on your camera you can...More

Very atmospheric and interesting caves and the Budhas are all different and awesome. The surrounding grounds are full of stalls though and this a bit tacky.

Ancient temple carved into the rock. Climb up to the top of the rock is easier than the climb down. Take plenty of water with you .

It's a truly amazing experience for those who love art and culture. Unbelievable representation of the Buddhist art.

A temple up on a hill with a lot of colorful wall paintings and statues in several caves. Very cool! There are some stairs to get up to the temple but you can stay on the way up to rest while admiring the view. As...More

The problem with all the temples in Sri Lanka is that you start comparing them to each other and this one was not as impressive as I thought it would be. There are a lot of steps to go up, so not one to do...More
